That's just terrible, after all the waiting, the anticipation. I hope SE will fix these issues ASAP.
resistance is futile.

I would like to share some things that stood out for me after reading the K800's manual. No doubt some of them will be old news to some/most people, but I find this sort of tid-bit information really handy, and often breezed over in reviews.
Thank-you to Pistvakten, for posting the links to this booklet.

A summary of the K800 User Guide

- The setup wizard now has a 'Settings Download' service. This appears to download GPRS, MMS settings, etc. (p6, p61)

- Flight mode allows you to compose a text message to send later, rather than just media player as was the case on W800. (p7)

- Infrared port is located not on the top, but on the bottom right-hand-side of the phone. (p8)

- 'My friends' has finally been dropped from position #3 in the messaging menu, (denoted as network dependant). (p10)

- 'Video Player' is now separate from music player, located in 'Entertainment.' (p10)

- 'USB' has it's own settings menu in 'Connectivity.' (p11)

- The 'Play/Pause' button allegedly opens/minimizes the media player, possibly rather than automatically playing a song (W800) or prompting you to plug in the hands free (K750). (p12)

- If using 3G, there is always going to be a UMTS coverage icon on the status bar, rather than on the signal strength indicator. A wasted icon space in my opinion. (p14)

- 'Next word pred.(iction)' "When writing a message, you can use T9 Text Input to predict the next word, if previously used in a sentence." (p16)

- Loud Speaker has been removed from soft key? Instructions on how to turn the speaker on indicate that 'More' must be pressed, then Speaker can be selected. I sure hope not, as this was one of the great improvements that the K750 made over the K700.

- Video call can be demoed to test settings without connecting. (p21)

- Outgoing video call image can be zoomed. (p21)

- Copy and Paste is supported in text messages. (p34)

- Saved messages can either be saved in 'Saved messaged' on the limited SIM, or in 'Templates' on the phone.

- Focus can be set to 'Infinite.' So this could possibly stop a lot of the poor quality pictures that we have been seeing around here? I'm not sure whether this would stop the auto focus delay or not however... (p47)

- Image stabilizer is often referenced as 'use if available,' making me think that maybe it is disabled in certain shoot modes. (Only can be used in 'Document' mode?) (p47)

- Spot metering can be set to whole of frame. (p47)

- Mic can be turned off when recording video. (p47)

- Photos can be PictBridge printed without any additional java software - just the USB cable is needed. (p49)

- An animation or image of more than 1MB set as wallpaper may affect performance. (p50)

- It appears that it is still not possible to pause and resume a sound recording. (p60)

- The browser can be resized to view pages in landscape, full screen, text only or a setting dubbed 'Smart Fit'. Webpages can also be zoomed. I had a hunch this was the case, but this confirms it for me! (p62, p63)

- When browsing, the keypad can be set to 'Access Keys' mode, for faster website navigation. (p63)

- Bluetooth can 'connect to computers and access the internet.' (p66)

- Bluetooth is disabled in Flight Mode. (p66, p7)

- Over-the-Air update of firmware appears to accrue operator GRPS charges. Bad luck for countries with no decent data plans (Australia!!). I think GPRS is used to even check for updates, otherwise you could use this service to notify you of updates, and then use SEUS for free. (p72)

- No mention of the number of codes held in Code Memo. Chances are it's still limited to 10 like the K750. (p76, p77)

- No mention of whether profiles change ring tones. Chances are that this is not the case, as per K750. (p77)

- SE acknowledge that the phone memory can become improperly organised, and a restart of the phone (every day!) will help remedy this. (p80)

- It appears the phone has to be restarted in order to exit Flight Mode, rather than simply turning the radio transmitters back on. However the probably isn't enough information yet to be conclusive about this. (p84)

- There's a good list of support email addresses and phone numbers in the back of the booklet. (p86, p87)

- No SAR figures are given. (p89) Cheers!

@jason d

Thanks for this.

can you explain this

- 'Next word pred.(iction)' "When writing a message, you can use T9 Text Input to predict the next word, if previously used in a sentence." (p16)

Thanks.

Also, its good to see the copy and paste feature appear.

@goldenface,

Sorry, I wasn't very clear!

There is a feature called "Next word prediction."
(It is denoted in the phone as "Next word pred.")

I read this to be some kind of auto-complete for words, possibly sentences in sms composing. It states that pressing the # (space) key accepts word predictions offered and moves forward in the sms.

Perhaps predictive text displays the most likely word depending on your writing style, without having to scroll 1 item down a list?

One can really only speculate! Cheers!

@Jasond Ahh.

So its like the Auto-complete feature in Microsoft Word, where you hit the enter button to accept - but on this its the # key.

I understand.

Thanks.

I hope SE have made a better job of this than microsoft, I don't want an annoying animated paperclip flashing up mid-sms trying to balls up my text!!!

Although I do like the sound of this feature. be interesting to see if you can use it with words you've added to T9

Hang on, you already use the # key to accept

Previously, when tapping in a word on T9 you couldn't see the word options unless you scroll.

I guess with this it displays the whole word / phrase before you finish tapping it in and you press # to accept. I'd like to see that in action. Having to scroll in T9 is what slows it down.

I initially thought this too! I still reckon this is a valid take on it!

Unless some beta testers can comfirm either way, we'll never know until we get it in our own hot little hands! a:D

That is a good idea, to include phrases like "how are" and "where are" and "will you" in the T9 dictionary.

i give a very big thumb down for SE for keeping the ancient qcif format when recording video,i mean this is like cutting the very branch they sit on.they advertise much that k800 carries the cybershot brand but it isn't capable in recording even in cif format.bad move SE

Don't worry.

I'm pretty sure there's going to be a Cybershot-branded upgrade to K800i that's going to be a video phone, much like W900i is to W800i/W550i.

Which is the reason why I wasn't that excited about K800i. (And maybe because it's ugly IMO.)
