The culprit seems to be the Xperia launcher that Sony use, i installed the Xperia S launcher on my GS2 last week, and although it looked beautiful, i ran back to the built-in TouchWiz one due to the XS Launcher stuttering/being choppy and laggy occassionaly almost like the Xperia Ss in the youtube vids. In the 5months ive had by GS2 it has NEVER lagged or stuttered, until i used XS Launcher and even though the XS launcher is good most of the time the unprectible lag popped up at the worst times, Sony need to optimize it, otherwise it will only get worse in Android4.0.

I tried installing/running TouchWiz and get a "stopped unexpectedly" error, but have used Go Launcher EX and the interface and certain programs still lag just as bad, particularly when it comes to scrolling (whether it be sprites or menus/web pages). I've even experienced a fair bit of slowdown with some games since my previous posts. Really not sure how to deal with this problem, it's clearly not the hardware - the Snapdragon S3 processor, while one generation behind the S4, is nothing to sneeze at... plenty other devices use it and I'm pretty sure they don't exhibit the same issue.

Launchers are optimized for devices, so it's a nonsense comparison.
You should replace your unit. XS runs really well.

I got my SX S replaced yesterday. It had a glitch over the home button resulting in "bed noises" when pressed.
I will check later if the new one has any problems with the mp3 playback while exiting programs or menus. |

@Prom1,
The xperia s seems to usually lag/stutter mainly when switching between homescreens, and arc s/arc/neo/neo v all had this problem too! Its not about the hardware in this case, but sony's software custimzation at fault. So I think it might be fixed with the ics update.

If you skip to about 2:55 then you can notice the lag , all though its nothing major, it just isnt as smooth as it could have been!
ROOT will do the trick! Then you can get rid of all the bloatware that slows down your phone. Ive seen rooted "Arcs" that are faster than "S"... Lag/Stutter will show on all android phones if you dont kill the bloatware that keeps eating up your RAM.
I just flashed ICS to my arc the other day and the lag/Stutter is still there...
My solution is to root it. |

And better now??
I also have it but don't have time to replace it.
I mean rebuilding everything from scratch...
And the phone works really well on .73.

@Tsepz_Gp
I too feel that the problem is with sony's home launcher!

Its actually shocking that even one x has this occasional lag, and my old desire is smoother(atleast on home screens)[no mods or roots or factory resets since over a year!] I really hope sony and htc get back.

One quirk I have noticed with the XS is that the NFC tags do not work all the time.. Kind of a hit or miss. Sometimes the smart tags are just not picked up. sometimes they are picked up instantly...
I hope it is software related..

It's certainly alot better than the previous 3 I had but not perfect. There is only the very slightest yellow tint at bottom of the display, and no yellow spot as of yet after a good 2 hours constant on the net and having watched a few videos one after the other on YouTube. Will be keeping a close eye on the display.

@dibdin,
how was the build quality so far on all the xperia ss you have had(disregarding the screen issue)? Were they consistent?

I've got a few issues about my Xperia S, firstly the battery cover is slightly loose so ever so slightly can me moved up and down not that big of an issue but does make it feel less premium. When plugging headphones in it seems to require a quite firm push. Also on the camera it seems to constantly go crazily out of focus and you have to manually reset it to normal but I can see this being a problem in video mode. Anyone else got these issues?

regarding the cover, I thought my cover was slightly loose too, I could move it up and down slightly aswell
But, it's because I didnt put it on properly, take it off and put it back perfectly. might take 2/3 tries
the cover will not move at all then.-
the headphone 3.5 Jack port is firm on mine
but there is nothing wrong with that, I dont think this is an issue
if anyone can confirm, by all means post
I have no idea about the camera :-S
my focus in photos and videos are great no complaints.

I think music playing seamlessly is the most basic requirement for any phone/music player. Playback had always been flawless in their feature phones, 3-4 years down the line music stutters and sometimes the player shut down altogether isn't exactly progress to me, especially for my flagship Arc S let alone Xperia S with dual core 1.5ghz processor leaving no more excuse for this to continue being a problem. This is exactly why people go for iPhone
I've just tested my X S and had the Navigation running with GPS on, Wifi on, had the browser open and the music player working and all are fine. You obviously have something wrong with your phone. I've never experienced any lag.
PS iPhones have problems too.
You know the problem with your car that can't be reproduced when you're at the mechanic? This is the same but one thing I do know is that it WILL happen sooner or later. Not sure if it's an android thing or a sony thing but it's just a matter of time before it happens

Guys, I think the "yellow dot" issue is bigger then Sony wants to admit, it might be as bad as every SXS have it.
My new (second) SXS that I got few days ago has it... I wont send it back yet since I just installed everything on it again but if it get worse I am def going back with it :S
Mine has one dot over the right button and one under the top right corner, it also have a yellow wave under the top left corner...
I am really disappointed by this, sure you don't notice it right away and sometimes not at all if you have the "right" background or an icon where the dot is, but at other times it's really annoying.
The thing is I love the SW in the SXS, mainly the music player with all its fun and usable details and I love the design of the phone so this is really hard now, I don't know what to do. |
