You can quite easily download paid apps .apk's which is illegal but if you have already bought them for iOS I don't see anything morally wrong with doing it. You can install these directly off the memory card, unlike with iOS where you would need to jail break.

It's interesting this stutter thing.
Where does it happen really? What apps?
For me X S runs well since the day 1.
Play a mp3 file and try go in out the web browser or menu and generally do other things while the music is playing. At least when you have it at speaker mode it lags and stutter a bit. It is really annoying.
It does that from time to time but nothing but a firmware that can be fixed |

Nothing annoying here. You have a problematic device or you're really obsessed.
Mine works fine.

obsessed???
I want uninterrupted playback of a mp3 file while browsing the web or just browsing the home menu. I don't think its wrong to demand this of a 500€ 1.5GHz dual core device. |

That's why I made it a possible reason no 2.
And pointed out that nothing of this kind happens on my phone.
Just tried it.
It's hard to discuss it without seeing it though.

@Prom1,
I have bought apps over 200$ so far on ipad2(which were also paid apps in android).. With this investment, I do feel moving to android tablet would be problematic, but as a phone, I am not really sure, but most of the apps are usually free in android as compared to ios. Ex - angry birds is like 3$, but free on android..
What i really like about android is, if you dont like it you can get a refund(within 5 min i think). But in ios, you need to go thru a lot to get back your money.. IF you got an ipad then you could possibly use those apps, along with android phone.. Else it will be there with your account, so lets say you wana move back to iphone6s, you would have them back..
There is also getjar application, which gives out 100's of paid application for free, plus amazon's app store, thru which you might be able to get them for free and legally... Else you could do what adsada said.
Personally I think you should check out the prices on the play store for the apps which you really like, and see the price diffrence of changing to android..

Actually with iOS you can re-download the same applications you've bought (free/paid - iTunes doesn't discriminate) back to 5 iOS devices, the same policy as music/movies downloaded.

@ djin,
Great feedback ... MUCH appreciated! I too feel that is my only major challenge. Unfortunately not ALL iOS applications are available for Android: I use about 6 music composition applications, and there is a few visual arts applications (most are iPad based). I could deal for a few months without these but not more than 4. The cost on my end is not as well invested as you are ... and I don't own an iPad (the one from work I used for 6wks solid is passed onto a colleague for now).
getjar ... I thought that site and list of apps was LOOOONG gone!

Agreed. There's nothing pedantic or "obsessed" about wanting a device of this spec to execute simple tasks without stutter or lag. I don't know if there's a bad batch of Xperia S's out there or what, but Sony need to get their shit together and stop this from happening period. The .73 update hasn't been released in the UK yet but I'm hoping it'll fix these issues.

I think music playing seamlessly is the most basic requirement for any phone/music player. Playback had always been flawless in their feature phones, 3-4 years down the line music stutters and sometimes the player shut down altogether isn't exactly progress to me, especially for my flagship Arc S let alone Xperia S with dual core 1.5ghz processor leaving no more excuse for this to continue being a problem. This is exactly why people go for iPhone

I've just tested my X S and had the Navigation running with GPS on, Wifi on, had the browser open and the music player working and all are fine. You obviously have something wrong with your phone. I've never experienced any lag.
PS iPhones have problems too. |

I checked out Xperia S. I was expecting a faster UI but not much of a difference I felt compared to Arc S. I'm surprised since its a dual core, it still lagged (very minor) while changing home screens

I played with two in two different stores a week ago and did not notice any lag at all. But I guess it may be subjective what is considered as lag. |

@Prom1,
Ah Android is still behind in creativity and multimedia type apps, but I think it will catch up soon. I guess you should rather have your iphone, and see how it goes with android.
I was also surprised to see getjar, but its very much alive, and its golden apps are really good! Lots of paid apps for free everyday!
---
The xperia s seems to usually lag/stutter mainly when switching between homescreens, and arc s/arc/neo/neo v all had this problem too! Its not about the hardware in this case, but sony's software custimzation at fault. So I think it might be fixed with the ics update.

If you skip to about 2:55 then you can notice the lag , all though its nothing major, it just isnt as smooth as it could have been!

I'm really enjoying the Xperia S, I used the Arc again last night and the X S is much quicker and more fluid.
Call me impatient thou, I really am getting itchy fingers waiting for both the .73 firmware update in the UK and ICS launch - I know it's coming but come on Sony, pull your finger out . |
