Has anyone else noticed that the picture that appears of the person who is calling, or that you are calling is blurred? it was full screen and in focus on the P910 but now on the P990 we have a smaller version that is not in focus.

Not only that, sometimes the picture doesn't come up at all and/or disappears. It seems to automatically delete itself

But only some pictures, randomly. [addsig]

Maybe Sony Ericsson cannot fix the major memory problems of Symbian 9.1 and they decided to update UIQ 3.0 with Symbian 9.2, and for that reason is taking soooo long...

I know that never happened before(Symbian update with Firmware) but technically its possible...

Just an idea, if you think about that Symbian 9.2 was completed a while ago and Symbian Company officially accept the memory issues with Symbian 9.1, the above writing is a very possible scenario... [addsig]

Tail - it's always software. We know the hardware works because, for however short a time after booting, the phone works just fine - the problem is a degradation of performance after that time which is obviously software related. Memory "leaks" like those in the UIQ3 phones aren't anything to do with the physical memory, but the way in which poorly coded applications and processes hog resources and don't release them when they should, and even leave "abandoned" processes running when the applications themselves have been shut down. This is how the phone's performance gradually worsens over time, until it inevitably has to restart. Sort out those problems, make the overall code more efficient and less memory hungry, and the whole thing will start to work the way it was intended.

Apart from the new chip set, which does not allow execute-in-place and therefore leaves us with very little RAM to work with....

But i still dont understand there all the RAM is? There should be 64meg on the phone but only about 14 after a restart...

@ michi - again, there's nothing wrong with the chipset. The NAND memory they've used doesn't allow execute in place, it's true - but it's faster than the memory which does, and can be made to perform just as well, if not better. It's also cheaper, which - let's not forget - helps to make the phones affordable. Nokia made exactly the same choice for their hardware, and that's not a coincidence.

The problem is inefficient, non-optimised, buggy and resource-hogging software. Fix that, and the "memory problem" is solved instantly.

Reliable source on french forum (said right away we would have nothing on week 48) also confirms we won't have any update this year.
