The sensor module will be used for the i1, ZL style i1 and i1 mini according to my source.
I am almost 100% certain that it is 1/2.3", the source is in SDI who make the sensors.
as expected...our hope is high for it...realism is not that perfect...
the equivalent lens is 28mm and the real focal length is 5mm (like you write in your post), which leads us to a crop factor of 5.6 and then a sensor size of 1/2.3" (crop factor of 5.64), the most common size for sensors of compact cameras : a very bad news because it is smaller than what we all expected. so this is true....from razec saw sample..but razec confirm f2 lens..not f2.2..

More from zomg
Well BIONZ for mobile is a software based engine that runs in a virtual machine on Krait based architecture. The VM starts when the camera app is opened and it will only be accessible by the Cyber-shot app. Afaik it is not really a processor, but software pretending to be a processor.
I don't know anything about a possible Xenon flash, if I were to take a guess, I would guess no because Sony haven't used Xenon since the C series and Satio which is four years and a different company ago. I think dual LED is what we will get.
As for the sensor, well Sony make a 2/3" sensor already for other camera companies, no 20MP one as has been rumoured, they tend to only go for high MP count in the smaller sensor cameras for whatever reason.
EDIT.
Here's a sensor size comparison

if zomg source is true...honami sensor will be based on HX50 instead?
http://store.sony.com/webapp/[....]&productId=8198552921666557527
20.4mp 1/2.3" Exmor R® CMOS sensor
1/2.3 only match s4 zoom and galaxy camera..
how to beat 808 or lumia 1020?

We don't know for sure. They could have made a new sensor for themselves, and deliberately kept it under the radar.
We can't really say anything till Honami is released. |

My dear Jianlin, there is the slightest possibility of camera Honami, be better than the camera in 1020 and especially the 808 !
And I believe that this is not the intention of the Sony, S4 Zoom is the likely opponent Honami in image and video ! |

haha..at least the sensor is on par with s4 zoom n galaxy camera 1/2.3....i don't mind though...
but 1/1.5 is more awesome....but the image quality more important though...

This would explain the inconsistencies found in the exif data from the sample reviewed by Razec...
...no, wait, not even: Razec found a F2 apperture.
So my best guess is that Sony is trying, and managing, to keep the secret around Honami.
All we non-insiders know from Sony is that back in May, Kaz promised a bleeding edge (最新), top of the line specs (最強), xperia for 2013.
I would prefer the specs to follow Ramu's rumor, but we will eventually know, only 1 month and half to wait.
But in the end, what would make me buy it is that, as a package, it delivers the best low light performance among ios and android, more than the actual sensor size.
This is the type of things I think Sony should have in mind, i guess there are many people like me, i am changing my phone, will look for the best available one, and the only thing i am sure of is that i will not buy windows.
There is also the possibility that the mysterious device is a camera centric phone, with the design leaked by Maia and the latest XR5 specs provided by Ramu.

Anyways it's too hard to believe what zomg says. . .
He has been the most inconsistent all this time.
He changes his opinion and information like.no.other .
First he said that there won't be any honami kind of phone with great camera, sensor will be normal(1/3.2"), megapixel count will be 16mpx, dismissed bionz and what not.
Later on he suddenly changed his opinion and told that there is indeed a phone with 2/3" or 1/1.5" sensor with mobile bionz(hardware chip) and Sony G lens.
And now he is telling that there is only 1/2.3" sensor(in between the two), just software bionz and his silence regarding to G lens.
Morover pixel count of honami's sensor isn't 20."4" mpx!!! The last digit is something else !
Even the aperture is indeed f2 not f2.2 |

I was thinking, based on a comment on the thread similar to this on XDA... Honami will have a new UXP/UI... And we had a leak with a lot of new stuff. They are basically the updated 4.2.2 that Xperia Z/ZL got, and ZU is getting it.
Then someone commented that the firmware leak we had is pretty early, considering Honami will have a new UI at launch... Now I ask myself:
Why did not Sony just added the needed stuff to the actual Z firmware so that it could be shown with ZU (just framework and a few apps work, such as keyboard and Xperia Home), thus making the work much smaller for the devs, and then show the new UI on Honami?
Ok, this is a bit confusing, so tl;dr: Why create a new UI/apps for something that will last not even 3 months? Why not skip all of that and wait a bit longer?

maybe this leak was for the same purpose as what apple had done with its iphone prototypes leaking years ago. |

If its 1/2.3 cut into 20Mpix... that's a shame I was really looking forward to this.. I was hoping for a more "classic" approach instead of this crazy oversampling stuff Nokia is doing. Just old school fat pixels with good optics.. maybe one day.
1/2.3 @ 20mpix would probably yield 1.1 micron pixels... doesn't really stand a chance against the 808's IQ .. no matter what they do in terms of jpeg processing.

i thought it was already confirmed that 1020 uses toshiba sensor? plus wasn't there news way back earlier this year that said sony would no longer allow mobile manufacturers to use their camera sensors anymore?
I asked Juha Alakarhu on twtter and he said that they still haven't decided to communicate who made the sensor for the 1020... so if it was Toshiba, just like the 808, why not share that information ? Everyone knows that they are working with them..

Total effective sensor resolution is 20.65MPixels (5248*3936) so I think he's spot on there, but as I said before max aperture is F2/F2.0, perhaps the F2.2 that he mentioned could be the result of a possible presence of a variable lens aperture, we don't know for sure.

I think honami will be good but the real excitement will be the phone after honami.
Looking at the last few years Sony have set the tone for the whole year with their announcements at CES and MWC. This has become the time for them to change a design style and set the feeling for all the handsets that year. Take this for example, the theme is omnibalance, 2011 was 'arc design', 2012 was split between the NXT and Arc because the arc design proved so much more popular.
Every year the lead handset that sets the tone is released in March and an updated version is released in Q3. Usually the updated version is just that, an update, not an entirely new 'groundbreaking' device (again looking at Arc/Arc S and every year going back to K800/810, W800/850 maybe earlier I don't remember).
For these reasons I'm not expecting honami to be more than 'Z 2' or 'Z S800' as Eldar described. It will essentially be an update. The real next big hitter will be early next year. Just my prediction.

@Ricky D
Wasn't it already 'confirmed' that Honami's successor won't come somewhere around S5 announcement? Sony is supposed to change their tactics and release only 1 flagship model a year and not like now 1H flagship and then 2H flagship. |

All this talk of the Honami's successor seems to be putting a downer on how [good] the Honami will be Surely the Honami will be a great phone nonetheless though. Besides the [much hyped] camera it will utilise the Qualcomm S800 processor which as well as being really powerful, will also make better/less hungry use of battery life. I do not share any negative [oriented] views that others have started posting. I for one think that the Honami will be a really great phone
