I have no idea what is this problem about.
What did you install?
Mine X S is 372 hours without reboot and is still silky smooth.

Nothing! It was like this out of the box. I've since installed a couple applications (IM+, Spotify, Opera) and the launcher mentioned earlier in an attempt to salvage some measure of stability from the device, but as mentioned before it performs no better. I bought mine on contract from Three, call me stupid but might that have something to do with it? (British guy here)
The weird thing is that I also downloaded a few free games like Temple Run and tried out the trial copy of Dead Space and Tiger Woods 2011 that came installed on the device and all those games ran perfectly. It's seemingly the interface and applications that run within it (like browser, Spotify) which underperform. If I'm listening to music and flitting about menus the sound will often hiccup, browser / Opera scrolling is clunky and slow etc.
Looks like I might've received a dud. Here's hoping the replacement I get will run as nicely as yours.

Xperia S is coming to Canada on April 17 but it is exclusive to Rogers and can be bought only at Sony stores. Has this been posted before? If yes, just disregard it.

A factory data reset might help you. You can do it via Settings -> Privacy

There was nothing like it when it was launched just like the iPhone in 2007 and history tells us other companies have caught up with and even surpassed Apple in the mobile industry. Just because GS2 was far ahead of the competition last year doesn't imply GS3 will do the same thing this year. By that logic iphone 4S should have been the greatest phone now . I bet, if Samsung themselves had launched a phone last month, it would not have been far ahead of GS2!
Yes hardware matters, but how you use it matters as well. We're reaching a stage where all mobile makers will be on a level ground in terms of hardware. AMOLED screens are not exclusive to Samsung phones anymore for example, others have started making them. Today's world is very competitive. If you wait for GS3, you might as well wait a few more months and see what Apple, Sony, HTC bring out. As for the updates, SE updated X10 to gingerbread as well and they have transformed and so have HTC. XS and One X will go a step further than GS2. If you wait for 2 months, you get GS3, wait for 2 more months, there will be Xperia mint, wait for another month or so, there will be iPhone 5, wait for another month, you'll get a google phone.
For as long as Samsung continue innovating with their Exynos chips we can expect their phones to be far ahead.
The next Exynos which is based on A15 Cortex, that already makes it more powerful than a quad-core based on A9 (Tegra3).
So you dont agree that he should wait? Thats find, its your opinion. I say he should ,especialy with the GS3 coming with a A15 Cortex Exynos.

Just tried it, didn't help. Home screen still lags. Good idea though, I didn't realise there was a factory data reset option on the device.

You must have received a faulty piece.
Not facing any lag issues so far. The phone is silky smooth.
The only issue i have is that while video chatting via Gtalk app, the opposite party cannot see me. All they get is a blank screen. Is Gtalk video chat compatible with Xperia S or is there a way to authorize gtalk to use the front camera of the xperia S?
Skype works perfectly. The issue is only with Gtalk.
Any suggestions?

Well now everything is back to factory default settings so I'm using Timescape again, although the other launchers I tried before also lag. It's just not a smooth experience, browsing the internet and scrolling through menus. |

Connect to the pc companion and re install the firmware, that should solve it, if not then i think you will have to get it exchanged..

All reviews are very positive about the S, I would say more so than the Arc. Maybe this shows Sony are doing things right.
Main sticking point seems to be no ICS at launch. |

I tried reinstalling the firmware via PC Companion but the phone still lags. So literally nobody here knows what I'm talking about? You haven't noticed even the slightest bit of roughness in scrolling and animations in the UI? Cause I don't want to send this back only to get another one which is just as bad. Perhaps this is just the way the phone is and you people are better at putting up with it than I. |
