Hi guy's, I'm really excited as I'm getting my nice new P990 tomorrow. Can you tell me what the latest Orange firmware verion is? I will have to update the phone before anything if it's the older version.

if i had another phone just any, i would have thrown my P990i to the garbage. I think the biggest mistake is that i sold my P910i, and bought that crap P990i with its crappy software. All it does is crashing and restarting. everyday i have to turn it on and off in order to make things work. Its slowest phone i have ever owned. I hope the next firmware will fix all that, because its very dissapointing.

Just updated my R4 to R7. Looks like no new firmware (R9) yet.
Unlike my first P990 with chinese enabled, my second P990 with only english works like a charm. Yippee da do......loving it more

R9 may have a chance for today since today is the start of the largest telecom event this year. The ITU Telelcom show in HK.

@siandy;
I used to have the chinese enabled sets and it gave me lots of problems till I decided to let it go (sold off).
Yesterday, after much searching I deceided to get back the P990i english language set only and updated the firmware to world generic 2, got R7 installed now.
Here is what i believe. The chinese enabled sets comes in dual language and that takes up more ROM and becomes very noticeable when using handwriting. The speed was so very lagging and often had to "restart to improve performance".
Hence, when I decided to get the P990i back, I made very sure I got myself the english sets only.

R7 camera pic color accuracy not up to mark yet. Here's a comparison with K750i.

Below a pic taken with K750i.

Image taken with P990i with R7a

Notice the background color should be green, which was quite accurate from the K750i. Came out blue from P990i. Both uses exact same settings.

However the sharpness is much better from the P990i

Hopefully the next firmware corrects this.

Thanks for explanation bytes... Now, i don't think i can swap it anywhere in here ( i mean in china ) i don't think there is generic world on the market... poor me.... lol.. maybe should wait for new fw and see... I think what you say about ROM is all true. Noticed that i just have only about 12MB left on startup... even open a single app would be very unstable. Do you think it's worth to add extra 30-40% to get the same phone again just to get better performance? Are you doing the same? or should i just get the invoice and let SE pay my lost... lol

@siandy;
sorry for your situation. In my case I did not have to pay anything more. Was just my luck, in fact the second set came with festival promo, ie extra 4 free accessories and cheaper than my first P990i. Long story short, I re-purchased the second set at the same price that I sold off my first set, plus freebies .

Depending on your own requirements, a 30-40% up to get the same phone may be worthwhile, really depends on you. In my case, I have had played the HTC Trinity aka Dopod D810 (WM5 aku3.2), played the Nokia N73 (S60 3rd edition) and the choice became very obvious to me. I guess I will use P990i till another P-replacement comes along later

Cheers
