fileman (symbianware)

although i'm fan of sman i admit that i find fileman more convenient for simple file tasks (move, copy etc) but sman's "file manager" is quicker tho

@Ajack

i have one question, have posted it before in another thread but without reply, but you R developer and you may able reply

if i choose not to show hidden tasks, the taskman module displays following apps

keymapperExe 16k
SMan 92k
free ram 7128k

when i start another app, for example WorldMate, taskman displays following:
keymapperExe 16k
SMan 92k
WorldMate 204k
free ram 6556k

when i flush WorldMate i got free ram released much more than 204k, actually i got around 600k free or more

same with many more apps like AquaCalendar, which seems to occupy from 140 to 200k, but when i flush it i got 1mb or more free ram

i have tried and other task manager apps (like switcher, taskman etc) and all of them seem to display similar numbers to SMan (when 3rd party apps running display 200k ram usage but when close them releasing more than 0.5mb)

thks

@babis:

You prefer FileMan to SMan's File Manager?

To your other question, all task manager seem to report only how much the application takes when it is run. When the application allocates additional memory for it's use (dynamically allocate memory), that is not reported by the task manager. That's why when you run an app that seems to eat only 16K but the free memory is missing 1024K and when you quite that "small" program, you get back 1024K.

Also, UIQ programs tend to take stack memory cleanly while heap memory is never totally returned to the free pool. The Symbian OS tends to slowly free up those memory after some time though...

Hope you understand my explanation, else I'll leave it to Droll...

@619:

I believe I have already answered this question somewhere?!?!?!

The Kai Ti font or STKaiTi (Simp and Trad) font is available in the Office 2000 Chinese MUI package. It's 12MB in size....

ajack

i understand yr explanation

i was suspecting something like this, koz apps tend to use more ram ater manipulating with them for a while (and never return that ram back ) -

and thks for the prompt reply

@all:

I just got word from a user that there seems to be some compatibility issue with SMan's "Fix applist" utility and Magic Profiles. Please do not use the function in SMan if you have both apps installed until this problem has been sorted out. I will post additional details when I get them.

@chyeoh:

P900 users don't ever need the "fix applist" function, no?
