and SE phones arent boring ! Nokias are !
Nokia dont make bad phones, but they dont exactly get me excited each time they release a ' new ' phone every 28 days.

(About this dumb early post, in case someone hasn't already mentioned) Well duh!!! Thats cuz most Nokia mobiles let you change the covers, instead of sticking too a boring 'silver' colour! SE are boring cuz you can't change the covers or add flashing keypads etc! Contradicting yourself...
Also, i dunt think you'll ever be able to buy a Sony Ericsson for £99 with a built-in-camera, radio, MMS, X-HTML, flashlight, CHANGEABLE COVERS!, HSCSD, EDGE etc. (hint hint, Nokia's have better budget phones, the only SE budget phones i can think of is the T230 and the Z200!)
But i do agree with your last thought... 'Nokia dont make bad phones'.

WOW! Changeable covers! I so want a Nokia now, what a cool feature. I can just imagine how jealous everyone will be as I swap my covers about, whilst they are standing there with their well designed, feature packed little SE phones!
Seriously though, there is a very good reason that most Nokia phones come with changeable fascias, it's to try and disguise the fact that just about every Nokia phone looks the same!

WOW! How unique and individual u must be! Seriously, who wants to have a mobile that looks exactly the same, it's worse enough having a mobile that duz exactly the same features (nearly all mobiles let you take pictures and send MMS and surf WAP). lol!
I own a Nokia 3200, and i can actually say (because I HAVE a mobile which can change covers) that people do like it when i change the style, they even say 'i prefer your other one...'). And no, my friend doesn't have a fone that can change covers, in fact he doesnt have a nokia!
I'm actually speaking from experience, ive had about 3 nokia's and when ive changed the look of the fone by changing covers people have noticed. We all know how it feels, it gets boring sticking to the same wallpaper, sticking to the same ringtone, so it's not stupid to not stick to the same cover and change the style now and again.
Also, nokia's dont have changeable covers to hide the fact they look the same, the Nokia 3310 and 3660 both have x-press on covers but they don't look the same at all :s.
And also...

Do see what you mean, a mobile is meant for calling people. But nowadays mobiles have become more than just a 'thing'. If you got to choose between a Nokia 5110 (an old brick with an antenna) or a T630, you wouldn't just wana a 5110 which can practically just call people, you'd want a T630 which can do everything (take pictures, send pictures, surf WAP etc).
Mobiles aren't just mobiles anymore, they're incorporating many features which today, have become the standard that any new mobiles should have.
etaab wrote: "Nah.. its not just my opinion, but how the masses see it too." Have you asked 'the masses?!'. You see loadza peeps going out to buy phone covers, flashing keypads etc to make their phones look different. If 'masses' think that personalising your fone is pointless, then how come when your out and about you don't see absolutely everyone with the same in-box cover?

I can honestly say that I haven't laughed so much at a post on Esato in quite some time as I did reading your last couple of posts in this thread. No one is arguing that personalising one's phone is nice, but what we are arguing with you about is the fact that you seem to think that allowing the user to change the colour or design of the fascia is an outstanding feature of a mobile phone. Most of Esato’s members are very interested in mobile phones and actually care about what their phone can do, rather than the ability to stick a gaudy looking cover on it.
Nokia doesn’t produce bad phones; it produces simple phones for simple people, everything about a Nokia phone screams simplistic and not in the good minimalist way. The one Nokia that I am reasonably impressed with is the 6600, but in the past few years there have been almost no Nokia phones that I would even contemplate buying. Nokia phones are for ‘Joe Public’, the average man or woman in the street who knows little about mobile technology and who only really wants a phone to make phone calls and to text people with. The serious mobile enthusiast goes for a SE phone or something from Samsung or perhaps even a mobile from Motorola or Siemens.
There is also the design issue of Nokia phones to take into account, the fact that they all look like bricks or like something that a child would have designed for a school science project. Nokia have become so complacent with their market share that they seem to think that it is fine to loose the plot with design and produce phones that most people would laugh at. You seem to think that any phone which doesn’t allow one to change its cover is boring, a rather odd point of view as far as I’m concerned. If you are comparing mobiles solely on looks alone then any SE phone beats any Nokia phone any day of the week. SE produce phones which are pleasing to the eye and look stylish, but very much understated; compare this with the blobs of plastic that Nokia throw out when they decide that they won’t just take one of their old designs, change the colour, remove an aerial, increase the number in its name by ten or so and call it a brand new phone.
Please do post a reply; I am interested to hear your thoughts on this subject that is if you have enough free time in between changing the cover on your phone.

@scotboys while i do agree with a lot of what you posted above (unless someone is in before me) the point about people ie joe public by nokia as its a simple phone is true smarter people chose se again i agree
however to say samsung i think you may be joking samsung phones are more crippled than nokias poor batterys crap ir very few have bluetooth file sharing via the joys of mms only
in terms of looks i posted in another post they are subjective to each there own some hate the new bmws looks i love them some love the z200 and t300 to me one is a bar of the soap the other the holder as seen in many a 70s home.
while not liking alot of nokias recent designs i do admire the fact that they have tried to move away from the traditional looks of phones ie candy bar flip etc and introduced something different even if it doesnt always work |

@slattery69
I have found Samsung phones to be quite good actually, although you are correct in saying that they often lack the more advanced features of SE phones, however, when held in comparison to a Nokia they are still better, I'd even take an Alcatel phone over a Nokia.
The newer Samsung phones are actually rather good; I have been rather impressed with them, especially the D410, although they still aren't as good as SE phones.
