it's 12 months here in australia i think...

but the question is, can they tell if i flashed it myself? if they can tell then they might say "u have voided ur warranty, we can't upgrade for u"... if not then everything's perfect

@frail: The warranty period for SE worldwide is 12 mos upon presentation of the sales receipt, or 15 mos after manufacturing date; whichever suits you best! (I think!).

Regarding flashing, if you get the hang of doing it yourself then you could also install the newer unbranded versions as they become available. This means that you would have to pay every time you did this. If you did this only initially, then you could try to get the upgrades at SE for free, but there is always the chance that they will discover it is a Live unit (it shows if you look deep inside) and I don't know how they would react even though you can always claim that the first flashing was done at an SE center "when your cousin in Sydney took it somewhere"! It is a complex situation but I don't think that anyone will care that much. In the worst case scenario you might end up with a free upgraded software, courtesy of SE, but...of a Live version!

I hope I've not ruined your weekend! After all, it's only a freaking phone; a good one even if it has horrible Voda icons!

By the way, today I've noticed an important improvement with R1L software and forgive me if it has been mentioned before:
When you are in Camera Mode, you get ALL the camera effects available by pressing the 1,2,3 and 4 keys. One choice of effect for each key. EXTREMELY convenient. By pressing key 1 one actually gets a two-position zooming by alternating between small ang large size image. Also, I've noticed that by moving the joystick in the right-left direction you can control the color saturation which I don't remember if it was available with R1A firmware.

I am VERY happy with these camera improvements!

Actually the manual quotes warranty as
"Subject to the conditions of this Limited Warranty, Sony Ericsson warrants this product to be free from defects in design, material and workmanship at the time of the original purchase by a consumer and for a subsequent period of 1 year".

It also goes on to say the warranty is not world wide but only in the region in which the phone was bought (e.g. europe) and then only in countries that actually sell that product.

No mention of 15 months after manufacturing date.

@masseur: What I wrote is "offficially official" with SE-Greece who has a very strong presence and a very extensive and excellent service network here. I assumed that it would be the same everywhere...but I guess I might be "very much mistaken"!

@frail: I remember having read about a British site that offers T610 software, but I cannot recall the name. It is somewhere in here; try a search. Keep in mind that it requires the "T28 cable" which you also have to purchase.

To end this controversy once and for all, I can now announce to you all that today I had my Live T610, which I had had flashed with generic R1A firmware, flashed with generic R1L firmware. As I had pointed out, I had removed the Voda logos, I handed it to the serviceman switched-off and without a sim card, it was a busy Saturday morning and 20 minutes later, voila!! Generic R1L on (originally) Live unit. Aunt Emma had no clue as to what the origin of my phone was. There is no automatic detection, and the selection of the type of software is being done manually.

This is the way it should be, because I paid 388E for my unit without a contract, and Voda did not subsidize any part of the cost; on the contrary they made a good profit. Now the unit is mine and I should have the right to do whatever I want with it. I bought an SE phone and I do not want Vodafone interfering with the looks of it if I do not owe them anyhting.

Just had mine and my girlfriends T610 up graded to R1L and our phones seem to be running a lot faster now and they are a lot more stable.
Brought to you straight from the event horizon of a quantum singularity.
