Do you use lead bullets with your glocks. If so do they really foul up easily. Its been posted in other forums and in the glock annual 2003 that lead bullets cause excessive build up of crud which can increase chamber pressures which can lead to catastrophic failures and KB's, they say that this is due to the polygonal barrels found in Glock(and HK's, Jericho's etc) which are tighter than conventionally rifled ones. Funny thing is most of my shooting friends who use glocks(mostly 19's) use lead bullets(reloads) as these are readily available, practical and cheap, with no untoward incidents that I can remember and we shoot at least twice a week. I also use them for my HK in practice sessions and in fun shoots. Maybe we're just lucky or maybe as long as we clean them after every use we're safe (knock on wood).

i do not use reloaded and lead bullets anymore on my polygonal barreled guns. Glocks have tight chamber tolerances, and once a bullet is lighted, the brass case bulges (and we all know a reloaded brass already bulges), and will have a slower eject speed. harder time to get out of the chamber, coupled with a lower powder load to push it out, it can't eject on time for the next bullet feed. this will cause stove-piped ejected brass. this will damage the breechface, and maybe the ramp too. not to mention many other malfunctions. and that pressure build-up that you mentioned... i am inclined to believe it. if too much lead is already stuck on the barrel groove, i guess it will hold pressure back and make it push around the chamber, which...yes, will be catastrophic. maybe if you reload a little more powder (i dont know how to reload, so i'm sorry i dont know how much exactly) it may give a better pressure push (but again, think of what the lead build-up may cause). i guess the designers of these guns were all thinking that these guns will be used with state-supplied perfect loads, and didnt consider us users of reloads ! they "perfected" on the basis of good loads. (havent experienced any malfunction with factory loads on our Glocks!)
with reloads and leads the USP is more tolerant. the Glocks absolutely either stovepipes or doesnt eject at all. that is my personal reason to stop using reloads on our Glocks. |

It would be very expensive to use factory ammo all the time although nyclad and copper plated bullets are a cheaper alternative to fmj. Anyway i'm a stubborn man, and i'll try lead reloads for one or two sessions and see how they turn out, i'll just clean every 50 rounds. More expensive bullets means lesser range time and that's not nice. Thanks for the input :-)

unfortunately thats true, doc. the more expensive each round is, the lesser we are going to enjoy. that is why i use local bullets on regular range time.
but let me tell you something... atin-atin lang ...i still sometimes try lead (dahil expensive nga ang factory load). but once it malfunctions after about a few rounds... i stop. and then it's cleaning time again.
(then i put the remaining lead rounds on my H&K ! ...my ever reliable big boy USP!) |

I noticed that booth but I don't know her personally, unlike Jane of Nashe and Angie of Twin pines. Next gunshow we should probably meet up, forgot to ask for your number before I went to this one.

I like the dirty harry movies too. I have a .44 Magnum Ruger Super Blackhawk and its one of my favorites. Don't get to shoot it as much as I like because the ammo is expensive. Its super accurate up to 100 yards. BTW, currently, the most powerful handgun cartridge is the .500 S&W Magnum used in the new Smith & Wesson X-Frame revolver. Its muzzle energy is twice that of the .44 Magnum

Yes we'll do that . I availed of the express service which is 10 working days, I should get the gun by the end of the month. I'll just update you on my impressions once I get the gun. Do you post in glock talk?, they have a thriving community of filipino gun enthusiasts called band of glockers, and discussions are not exclusive to glocks but to firearms in general. |

I was able to hold a Steyr M series pistol at the last Gunshow. Nice front sight, grip angle is good. Most 1911 users will probably have to adjust to this grip angle but S&W and Browning 0.22 Target Gun users might feel right at home. Nashe reps said they do not have any more .40 in their stocks though. |

if only the government doesn't tax us so much (not to mention making it hard to acquire a right to self-defense...) i would get all the models that we have been talking about here.
yes i saw that Steyr M/S9 at nashe. but i had been wanting a .40 model. and a friend is selling his Glock-35 (that's another .40sw) and now i am getting all these options.... decisions, decisions. mag-ala holduper na lang kaya ako, no license no nothing and free to carry, hahahah!
G17 ...when do you think we'll have the Sony-Ericsson P900 in the local market? and hey... in the greenhills blackmarket there seem to be some flow of 2nd hand O2-XDAs! |

Just came across this thread only now. Been meaning to get a pistol for the house ever since my daughter was born. It's been 3 years already and I still haven't gotten one. When the government's tightening up on licensing came out, I guess I put it off even more.
I still plan to. Looking for a good compact 9mm at the end of the day. I've had my eye on the Beretta, the CZ, the HK, but leaning more towards the Walther. What do you guys recommend?
