On paper means nothing. We all knew that sony would push their on technology like MSD
Ericsson was free to chose whoever they want to work with. They had a deal with canon, they used MMC cards in their mp-3 player.
I said it was a bad idea back then, and i'm still saying it today.

I dont think that memory stick or m2 was the problem with Sony Ericsson. After all,in 2005-8,that they actively used memory stick, they had their best sales/profit,so there is no evidence that memory stick, was a reason failed. The main reason is that they were too late to jump into the smartphone race, and that they chose the wrong platform uiq/windows mobile/symbian.I hope now that they have found the right platform, they start delivering better user experiences. |

To late for the smartphone race? They were ahead, but they guys at the head office chose to dump UIQ. If they would've pushed and tried to stay ahead of the market they would now be 2nd in terms of marketshare and UIQ would be as good or even better then Android 4.0
Choosing to play with WM was a bad idea aswell. But hey what do people like me know, what do the oldies of Esato know about the market and future hypes.

I dont think that should have stayed with uiq to begin with.Sony Ericsson's smartphones were always viewed as good speced phones, with limited apps compared to s60,and high-prices.I think that sony ericsson made a big mistake by purchasing uiq back in 2006.That was the time, that they should have abondoned symbian altogether, and started working on their own OS based on linux,so that they can use it on both non-touch and touchscreen based phones from 2008 and onwards.Back then, they had the money needed to do so.Unfortunatly,in 2008-2010, was developing in 5 different platforms simultaneously(uiq, windows 6.1/6.5,android,s60 touch,a200) and that proved to be a really bad strategy. |

I never thought this would actualy happen so its official over now, wow! I hope SONY have so great devices for us next year, 1st thing i would do if i was them is cut the ties with Qualcomm, get on the Texas Instruments wagon, also wonder if we will see Cyber-shot make a comeback, maybe into Smartphones this time?
Im excited and sad at the same time.

I don't care if it's a good move or bad but I'm extremely sad about this news. I have had a perfect relationship with Sony Ericsson with buying their first mobile phone T200 and using Sony Ericsson mobile phones for a decade. When the company was launched in 2001, I knew it had great potentials. It's very sad that it could not deliver to it's best. There has been great times for Sony Ericsson but I still think it had a long way to go to be at it's best.
Well, whatever happens, it's all for good.
It was great and exceptionally amazing experience using Sony Ericsson phones. Will surely miss it!

sooooo sad
after long time with Ericsson , then Sony Ericsson, after about 15 years i will not see
the name of Ericsson on a mobile device
i always blamed Sony for the problem SE was facing
all the mistakes Sony was doing, specially in the marking was there in the SE
i like Sony but i don't trust them

Who says they will be ditching the Ericsson brand? All it means is they have one owner not two, and so they will be able to move quicker in the market.
This is BRILLIANT!

That's a wonderful news. No more mediocre cameras and screens, like those in whole 2011 xperia line. |

one would assume quicker releases of products... Well, I say this only because I figure Sony's R&D would be a lot better (ie, more money, etc etc) than that of
