Dollars is the answer. Or more correctly, YEN
The japs pay a lot more for this kind of thing than we do in the west.

not really, their package plans are always quite attractive or rather affordable plus they will give lots of free gifts, what the telco really earn in Japan are those downloads and internet charges because the Japanese uses a lot of internet through their mobile. They can do a lot of things using their mobile. From banking to ordering to blogging to shopping to email to take train to buy things via scanning their phones...etc......which I feel it is fair enough to charge what we used. |

yes but as a whole there is more demand in japan for mobile internet services. More demand = more money = more services = better hardware.
Due to population density in Japan there is more buck available for carriers per square km of internet coverage. So fast mobile internet is more common and subsequently better handsets are available than in less population dense parts of the world.
In Australia for example, we still lag behind Europe in mobile broadband prices, due to our lower population density.

Let's not forget that SE has openly stated that they only care about what operators think. As long as the operators are happy with the current quality of SE devices, that is exactly what we will keep getting, nothing more.

SE, was once in the right direction, however they have stalled in getting out better units and now have resorted to dishing out crap.
After many loyal years, SE is no longer my choice. The iphone will revolutionize the cell phone world. When there SDK hits full force, the Nokia's , Sony Ericssons, LG, samsung and others will become dinosaurs, unable to compete for a good while.
I now own an iphone. Believe me...... once the SDK hits, the competition will be blown straight out of the water........ : ) SE you can keep your crap, I got tired of waiting..............

Actually yes...But I need to do some research and get back on this topic. It was within the last 6 months on Esato. Something about SE's main customers being the operators...

OK, opinion rewrite - It's good, but looks boring.
Still, IMO, the Walkman player is better. ('specially the touch player)
