Until youve used one you wont know how good it is. I havent used an iphone but ive used an ipod touch so I have a good idea on what to expect and all I can say is out of all the phones ive ever used its very clear Apple have made something uber special here.
Until YOU have used one, how can you say it's "uber special"
Bottom line is, it's an ipod touch with an extremely basic communication element built in IMO.

I explained my reasoning earlier, this way i get to have the best of everything. Plus im tired of Nokia and SE, its the same devices every year with the same bugs with just some mroe features. I want a change and the iphone looks like the best thing out for a long time. It fits all my needs except for video recording but I carry a camera around now as I want quality pics whenever I want.
At the end of the day after all its critisims ive not heard many complaints regarding it and whats better is that even all the gadget magazines like stuff have really posative things to say about it.
If it can please them mweb im sure it can please me

UMTS is only useful for those in major cities, as the UMTS coverage in the UK is crap, therefore it is of no benefit to those who have no coverage.
Hence buying a phone with no UMTS, is surely not stupid?

Time will tell if the lack of 3G will hurt the iphone sales in the UK. November isnt that far away. I better start hunting around for a decent screen protector. |

Please take the time to inform me then. I have been in the mobile business for over 6 years, selling them for a Major Carrier, Working on them as an Engineer, and also Debranding/Unlocking, and selling them individually.
Please feel free to inform me of what exactly was misinformed about my statement. the UMTS coverage of the UK's Strongest network, namely Orange, is poor at best, the coverage is sporadic, and only covers major cities, hence the reason that all calculations are based on POPULATION COVERAGE, and not LAND COVERAGE.
However i am sure that with your vast knowledge, you can school me.
So please carry on.......

My words are this: In the last 6 months to a year I've never had an issue with 3G coverage. Even in the little village I live in. I even got full 3G coverage over 2 years ago in the middle of the woods on an army base.

I really wouldn't say Orange has the best 3G Network i would say T-Mobile has one of the best and definitely the best roll out of HSDPA in the UK. I have very rarely not had either 3G or HSDPA cover and before the end of the year T-Mobile will have in place 7.2mbps HSDPA up and running. This is considerably faster than both EDGE and even 3G. Although currently most HSDPA devices are only 3.6mbps ready i am sure next year will see more devices able to take advantage of the 7.2mbps speeds available.

I agree, and now a merge with 3 UK is on the cards it will be even better. UMTS is must if your downloading on the go and uploading media to a blog or sendng large emails. etc

no way i could go back to EGPRS (Edge) its like going from a K810 3.2Mp cam to a VGA camera phone lol |

you must be joking they review based on the amount of free ones they get sent to them! if you seriously think these people arent paid off most of the time you have got igoggles on lol
btw the BBC Poll got pulled quicker than usual because so many people were voting NO to getting an iphone. i think it was 86% of the 50,000 people that voted...

86% of people won't get an iPhone?
That's pretty good really, because it (unscientifically) suggests that 14% of people will get one.
What 'official' polls do is sample a representative section of the population, say 1000 people, then scale that up to the full population to get the results.
So 14% of 60million people in the UK = 8.4million iPhones sold!!
I would imagine pretty much any product would get similar results in a similar test. Clearly the vast majority of people won't buy any particular product. No single product is right for most people.
Obviously the 50,000 people who voted in the BBC poll are not a representative sample, and the poll is not scientific in any way at all.
But I'd like to see the results of a similar poll "Will you be buying a Sony Ericsson K850" for instance. I would guess the "No" percentage would be even higher.
The options in the question should also have been expanded:
Will you be buying an iPhone?
a) Yes, I want one at any cost
b) Yes, at the announced price
c) No, not until it becomes cheaper or available without a contract
d) No, I'm not interested at all |

well not really as its 50,000 people that chose to look up and read about the iphone on the bbc website.
so out of 50,000 people that are already interested in finding out more about it, only 7,000 say they would buy one.
i'd be suprised if they actually sell more than 500,000 units by xmas in the UK....
EDIT: make that 50,000
