Hi, just got my grey W580i today. GORGEOUS!
1-There is an option to turn ON or OFF on both sliding up to answer and closing to end call.
2-The effects can be seen when the slider is closed, cause there is a gap between the front and back piece.
3-The lights UNFORTUNATELY doesnt work with the walkman features unlike w850i.
4-Shake feature is very simple, just skipping to the next music track when you shake forward (It is in the phone maual).
5-You can assign video as CONTACT RINGTONE or RINGTONE, and YES you can assign different light effects to all your contacts.
Hope you are happy with my info. I am still trying to explore the phone, will update if got any new tricks! Haha...

Thanks for the info, it's appreciated! but does the shake feature work both ways backwards and forwards??
Now is it really worth it to sacrifice the grey/black better colors for the white one which have the extra walkman front light effects ??!!:-| |

I think the lights in the white model were only available in the prototype models, the released white models don't have these lights anymore, can anyone confirm that??! |

im fairly sure the white does. It clearly shoes it in the demo video on youtube  i should be getting white one in 2 days, ive ordered it. will confirm then

yes! ican now. my supplier told me today he got some, arghhhh!!!!!  i ordered white yesterday.
off topic, i ordered p1 yesterday, today it dropped again $20usd 
all colours look good to me though, but the grey looks diff.

Yes, it has been since friday in the sony ericsson store/cpw for about £129.99 + top up on orange prepay if I'm not mistaken. |

Yey! My grey w580i was delivered today and its lush!
9 months free line rental on a 12 month contract, I'm happy with that! Looking forward to getting home to play with it tonight. |

BTW. As far as I can see so far, the Shake Control shuffles randomly to another song in the current playlist. |

Also it may be of interest to you guys that it arrived as an unbranded, unlocked phone on a vodafone contract. My orange sim works fine. |

thats weird. lucky you.
with vodafones here, if you get a newly released phones, after a week or 2 of it being in stock, you get unbranded sometimes.
when i got 6288, free, it was unbranded, coz i got few days after it was out, then couple weeks, they were all voda branded. same thing with their n95's
so it might change
