apple iphone unveiled! |

Apple site has all the iPhone user interface demo vids online now:
http://www.apple.com/iphone
This fone looks freakin amazing! Why wasnt the P990 more like this rather than just another P800 revision.
Apple have been developing this thing for 2.5 years and it is essentially running Mac OS X, stripped down/tailored codebase maybe but compiled from the same source as the desktop version - and it looks and acts like Mac OS X from the vids. Apple dont generally brag about something until its been developed to an an@l level, unlike Sony and many other companies who promise then dont deliver on time, then struggle to even deliver what was promised. Probably not a biggie that Apple has entered this market late, there were many MP3 players around before the iPod, and the iPod hasn't been dethrowned after many many geek years.
Wonder what the next gen models will have, theres a wider scope of evolution with this gadge...

Steve Jobs said during the introduction that 3G is coming...
How many of you have actually watched the video of the iPhone Introduction?

Seeing it in action really does show how far advanced the UI is... and that Multi-Touch screen is just amazing. Zooming in and out of photos, and scrolling is great.

I think once the hype dies down.... if it ever does people will see this for what it is. A very nice product and something to get excited about but it's nothing that new on what's available now. People saying it's running the full opperating system are deluded. It's a mobile version so not much different from WM5 I expect.

we'll know later how exactly it's tied to osx ...but they mentioned it can install the same apps which makes it intriuging

What get's me is this claim of it being 5 years ahead of anything else?? I give it 6 months to a year after it's released before SE and Nokia totally ruin Apple's thunder, not to mention LG and Samsung etc. The mobile market is totally crowded and one Apple will never dominate as their far too late to the party for that.
I just can't see the other manufacturers sitting their and doing nothing, they'll release killer phones no doubt.
At least WE are the winners in all this as WE get all the fantastic gadgets.

im sorry but if they had ideas for killer phones they would be releasing them, in what you call an already deadly market....unless they decide to do a microsoft and start copying..

The only problem i see is that everyone is going to have this phone sooner or later (see ipod). It would be nice if apple will start selling their software to other phone makers so we can have unique phones too. |

But what new functionality would you be enjoying on the iphone that your p990 cant do right now?
|

err... hopefully stability. Of course, it is still too early to tell how the iPhone will turn out to be. For all that we know, it might be even worst than the P990i.
My only worry is that the manufacturers are busy releasing new and "better" products that they forgot all about supporting the existing owners. |

That's why i will keep on Sony Ericsson's! Because if everyone has an iPod i want to be different - I want to stand out of the crowd. The same with the iPhone! If everybody around me has one, i willl stick with my Walkman Phone!

I said CROWDED market not deadly. You are naive if you think that SE, Nokia, Samsung, LG will sit their and do nothing. By the time it comes out in the UK the next batch of SE phones will be getting announced.
Think Bravia screens running Symbian OS with a touch screen that changes depending what app you have open with force feedback, this has been in the tech news for a while as the next control system for mobiles so is probably well in development.
I shall watch the key speech vid in a mo as I haven't seen it yet. I have no doubt the interface is brilliant. |

to be honest i never liked mac os. this phone does have good specs, though i dont like its looks, design plays a part for me.
the public has known apple were going to bring a phone out at some point, and i bet nokia etc probably knew this before us. im sure they have something coming, especially nokia.
remember the new w950 will be out later this year, probably before the iphone, and it will have 3.2mp and wifi. most likely big memory, maybe more than 4gb, and it may even have a mem card slot, who knows.
again, i dont like the looks, and the mac os. i think im the first one in this thread to say they dont like mac os |

Just another thought whilst I'm waiting for the keynote to load zzzzzzzz
What apps will it actually run?? Tom Tom??? Games?? |

I just realised the fact it has an ipod connector shud mean you will be able to make use of a massive inventory of ipod add-ons, i-trips and speaker docks come to mind straight away. A USB connector would have been nice tho.
The emailing/SMS and browsing vids look like bliss to use. Around the same time of its release Leopard will be out so it should be available with the latest OS features.
The potential of OS Virtualisation or running Parallels/Crossover opens up a whole heap of possiblilties (to run Windows virtual OS/apps). Being able to run full MS Office in a small device (made by MS arch enemy Apple LOL) - noone in this field can do that yet! |

To the people that say the hw in this phone is five years ahead of the rest...
Let me quote my self from a other thread...

The iPhone uses the OSX core, not OSX, it's missleading from Apple to say it uses the full OSX system.
It's like saying that Windows Mobile is same as WinXP.
What in iPhones specs makes it sooooooooooooo good?
The 2mp camera?
The lack of flash?
The lack of led?
The 5h talk time?
The 15h "music only" time?
The lack of 3G?
The video recording?
The phone capabilities?
The iPhone lacks a lot of things many take for granted in phones today.
It's not like touchscreen is something new and revolutionary guys...
And also do not forget Neonode...
But, I won't talk crap about the interface though, it looks really good and the multi-tap looks great too.
Apple did really good with the software!
Also watch the Keynote, it's great.

Also, let me quote a wise man =P

This is something you all should consider...
Seven years ago Ericsson had prototypes better than todays phones.
The problem is [for say or Nokia], and this is a big one, it seems that Apple got their software right whilst and Nokia haven't.
It isn't that hard to get the hw right these days, the problems often lay in the sw used.
And this is what Mr Jobs was talking about in the keynote, the software.
The software is what he claims is five years ahead of it's competitors, and it sure does look like it, but lets all w8 and see.
Sorry for my long post boys and girls :]
Edit: spelling spelling spelling...

very true but its apple, its not going to be as shitty to use as pocket pc and it runs apps like safari properly... but it is a basic package
What in iPhones specs makes it sooooooooooooo good? --- its apple duh
The 2mp camera? ---- i don't think my n73 camera is allot better then my k750i one and I hadly ever put them on my pc and this is the only time you will notice it....
The lack of flash? ----- this is not a really big issue as most people cannot take pics on fones for shit in the night....
The lack of led? ------------it has a big lcd screen, where do you need a lcd?
The 5h talk time? ----- isnt that similar to most nokias?
The 15h "music only" time? ----- similar to a w800i I believe... + most people charge their phones every night
The lack of 3G? ----- 3g isnt big enough to worry about right now, it has edge and wi-fi
The video recording? --- if its not supported it prob will be soon, remember its still development
The phone capabilities? --- it can ring and text... that is a phone
The iPhone lacks a lot of things many take for granted in phones today.
---- It also has many features that many phones lack
It's not like touchscreen is something new and revolutionary guys...
And also do not forget Neonode... ---- yes but also remember they had a bad marketing strategy and never singed to any uk network or sold to the uk directly....
Check out my sales I am a mac fanboy . I will honor Laffens gift of P990 flip free avartar, but I sold the p990 |
