I've since updated my W850i to R1GB001 via SEUS and there seems to be a major issue with this new SE firmware.

I had a 10 minute video recording from the previous R1ED001 firmware. When I go in to the Camera Album folder, the phone displays the gallery, and it then appears to have stopped responding, the buttons are unresponsive! After 10-20 seconds, the screen goes all white and it reboots itself back to the standby screen.

I have since recorded another 10 min video since with the new R1GB001 firmware, with again, the phone not responding and rebooting itself back to the standby screen as soon as you go in to the Camera Album folder.

It never used to do this with the previous R1ED001 firmware!

Not sure if anyone else has this same problem but have noticed this with the new R1GB001 firmware!

Overall, I think the phone's performance has degraded in general with this new firmware. I wonder if it's possible to roll back?

Another problem that i have noticed is in the Walkman.
Let's say you listen to a track and when it is at 2minutes, you stop it. You exit the Walkman and at a later point, you open it again. If you choose a new track to play, it will start at 2minutes and not from the beginning.
Can someone verify this?

this is happening to me even before the update. even if you play for 10 secs..any file that you play will start at 10 secs. haven't checked this on the new firmware though.

one thing i noticed is that the theme problem with hbh-ds970 has been fixed (where the title of the last played song still shows up even if the walkman is stopped or headset is disconnected)

I found that people here know very little about the new firmware...

here are my findings:

- enabled searching phonebook by 2 characters, e.g. t + r for tracy
- sensitivity of the light sensor lowered, i.e. less fluctuation of backlight level
- JavaVM updated to prevent crash of the system by Java programs, so you gotta reinstall all your apps and games
- I'm a Hong Kong Chinese version user and the speed of inputting Chinese characters have been increased a lot.
- new skins for the Walkman 2.0
- videos now can be previewed in file manager.

Just bought yesterday an W850i from Vodafone and it's branded and it has the older R1ED001 firmware which can't be updated using SEUS and kagi refuses my Visa Electron. So I can't use Wotan either.
Bugs:
- bluetooth connection with my laptop cannot be disconnected from the phone, I left it all night and this morning still said disconnecting
- can't use internet other bluetooth, might be a setting issue with the laptop though
- doesn't check e-mails when I specifically set it to check every 30 minutes. either doesn't check them at all or doesn't report them

Hi there, I was just about to tell my story about this problem when I saw your post ... I'm having the same problem with the new firmware.
The new firmware let's you see small silent previews of the videos, when viewing them through file manager. Now, when the video is too big, the phone indeed crashes and reboots.

It's a shame you can't turn the "silent preview" on/off. When changing the File View Modus, the problem is not solved, because you keep seeing the "silent preview". Can someone please make the developers aware of this problem? They should add an option to turn off the "silent preview", or make sure the phone doesn't crash.

It's kinda weird, because, when you view the same files (even a full length movie of 110MB) through the video player, no problem occurs.

Playing around with some movies, I was wondering if the option to set the "video size" to AUTO-FIT was already there in the previous firmware of the W850i ...? Or is this new? Guess I didn't notice it before...

Upgraded to R1GB as well. Noticed the new skins in the Walkman player. White and Orange. However, when use the Orange sking, the Playing icon on the screen is missing, it shows up as a rectangle with a red X in it not the usual > green arrow. missing an image or something in the firmware? Anybody else notice this?

On a plus side, I've noticed the phone doesn't "click" when changing tracks.

I managed to pay Wotan through kagi, from work. No ideea why the charge was accepted when using the internet at work and not from home.
Well, from a technical point of view Wotan SUCKS! I do know that most of you are quite happy with their services, however I believe it is absolutely unnacceptable their ftp's lack of reliability. I've had to restart the debranding process dozens of time because they couldn't provide a stable connection.
After the files where downloaded the debranding and firmware update went on smoothly and succesfully.
So far so good, I haven't encountered any bugs. Well, Blogspot supplied Atom feeders don't work with the RSS reader. And I expected them to be compatible since you can post a photo directly from the phone to your blog.

Hi,

I just debranded my w850 with watano and updated the firmware to the R1GB001 and I gotta say I am disappointed!

The phone seems much slower in general and one major thing that is missing is delivery reports!!

In SMS settings there are now only two settings, message length and service centre number. The setting for message type, delivery report etc have all gone but they were there before! Has anyone else noticed this? Delivery reports are vital for my job and now I can't use them....

Does anyone know of way to roll back to a branded firmware?

You are wrong. The phone is slightly faster and the settings are all there: message length, phone number, reply request, delivery report...
I have a W850i with mediterranean customization, in order to include romanian language.

Thanks for your reply, ok it does seem quicker now, I was just being a bit hasty. It was still prob finalsiing all it's settings.

But there are definitley only 2 settings on text message settings for me.... Could the USIM restrict what is available on that menu??

I got orange on R1GB001 too. Not a bad phone. Miss the play button on the side though.

The front page should be updated.
