They also complained when no profit when the yen was strong, works both way. Profit is profit. |

What? is Ebato a "thing" now? I thought long beard dudes and big booty girls are a thing, not ebato.
At most IT could be classified as nothing....

How come the Sony is selling the better sensor to Samsung while Z4 is rumoured to have the lower model? IMX240 vs IMX230? It's very clear from the numbers that the former is better even if the 230 is a more recent. The former has higher pixel size although lower resolution. It makes me think that isn't it possible that Sony is preparing to use the new curved sensor which is 2/3 inch. The perfume-like camera had this sensor for months now, why not use it now? this would definitely make Sony stand out of the competition.
“the smallest and highest quality
compact camera ever made.”
This will put them back on their glory days.
Why waste such sensor on the Kw1 which will never be that profitable

KW1 has a 1/2.3" sensor and not 2/3". |

Just to throw something on the pile.
My friend who works in a Vodafone shop says they're having a Sony breakfast next week. Usually this is when the Sony rep comes round and shows them the new devices. Also, this is usually about a month to two months ahead of it actually being on the shelves.
So to me that puts Z4 at end of April-May release in Vodafone UK stores.
I have a dig bick You read that wrong |

I don't think the IMX240 has phase detection built in, unlike the IMX230 which does has phase detection. The IMX240 is also 1/2.6 versus 1/2.4 for the IMX230 but the IMX240 has larger unit cell size, 1.2 vs 1.12 on the IMX230, so technically it should be better when it comes to noise.
As for the curved sensor, if Sony could have used the sensor in a smartphone they would have, there are probably a few issues with the sensor, be it size and fitting it into the slim body of a smartphone, or the yield of the curved sensor is not enough to justify its use in a smartphone which is supposed to cell millions. Doesn't matter, the sensor was and is not the main problem with Sony's camera, it is the software and algorithm, fix that and the even the old IMX220 from the Z3 will be just as good. |

I maybe adding 2+2 and getting 5 here but the IMX230 sensor is due to start shipping sometime in April and JDI have just put a brand new +5" 2K display into production a few weeks ago (Hopefully both destined for the Z4). With the amount of leaks that have appeared recently I'd have to say to say the same as Ricky D about an April/May release.
I'm so happy 'cause today I've found my friends ... They're in my head

+1
It has always been the hardware that is Sony's strength, while software has been their greatest weakness. The potential had been there all along, only not utilized due to unoptimized software.
It's been that way for years, Sony always trying to compensate their software weakness through using a much capable hardware. What was gained in hardware was lost in software. I don't know why they haven't really fixed it, or they just don't have the expertise in that field. I really wish that will change.
April/May release would be good as long as it does release on that month, (it's already almost April), so this will just be a sudden announcement from somewhere? (haven't kept up with the thread) They really need to generate a lot of noise for this one so it gets noticed. Smartphones are everywhere.

^I dont think Sony major problem is with their camera algorithm. Perhaps, the problem lies in the low quality lens and hardware limitation of the sensor. Becuase some folks at xperiablog pointed out the photos taken from Z3's camera appears washout due to either not very sharp lens and wide field of view so focusing on an object becomes an issue. These two reasons make sense if you guys read gsmarena's review of the some chinese phone that sports the same sensor as Z3 and the result are very similar. I have always wondered why despite having a bigger sensor, Z3 cant top the competiton and I cant help but think is mainly due to the hardware limitation of the sensor and the not so sharp lens. |

They also complained when no profit when the yen was strong, works both way. Profit is profit.
On paper, it is. And it covers the RND, marketing and other costs billed/produced within Japan, or any other place where they can pay in yen. Also they did not complain back then, but they've always used it as an excuse to cover poor performance, idiotic management decisions, shady trading practices, and total incompetence of their crumbling corporate structure.
unknownC151A - you can just read what the report says, and it says exactly what I said above, if you refuse to properly read corporatese, it's really your choice. |
