I just called my local SESC here in Malang, East Java, Indonesia-and guess what, they didn't even have any K800i f/w! Let alone this EROM upgrade.. An update or a full flash is done by capital province's SESC, within 2 weeks..it's 90 km far, 6 hours bus trip. |

To further bump sapporobaby's query from the previous page: I flashed mine to R1ED001 as soon as it was available on Wotanserver, the EROM is R3A011. Is there any benefit at all in this upgrade to the EROM? |

Answer to the question is Yes.
Service Centers have only been issued in the last 2 weeks the EROM update and from the prev post there is a service Adiv regarding the EROM update.
The Firmware doesnt stop the phone from white screening which is a major issue in the K800i. The EROM does this. As siad the EROM is a BIOS of the phone. Basic (B) Input (I) Output (O) System (S)
Erom stands for Erasable Read Only Memory.
hope this makes it clear

Hey Darren,
Not to continue this but I am now confused. I have never had the WSOD. I purchased my phone in Finland and it has not had any of the "so-called" problems that many have experienced, created or imagined. My phone has just worked flawlessly right out of the box. I upgraded via Wotan and it still remains rock solid. With this being the case, what advantage would I gain by updating the EROM over the current bug free operation I am enjoying?
Thanks.
*edited on a Mac of course. Mac: There is no substitute*
N82(YES), iPhone 3G, Shure es530, Nikon D300, more stuff. No more SE stuff, why am I still here? |

The EROM is to prevent the phone from white screening. The white screening is affecting many thousands of users world wide and this is why the release of the EROM.
However not all phones are affected from the white screen from what I can see. However there is no where of knowing which are and which arnt.
I have had white screening on both of my own K800i phones but i fixed them my self,
How white screen can occur an the one that happens the most is when you switch you phone of and plu the phone in to charge, The screen comes on white and thats it, It doesnt go of. This is white screening and left alone can, has and will damage the phone.
How to ge round this is watch the phone when you plug it in, the screen will come white an should go of ans SE logo come on in a few seconds. If this doesnt happen unplug he phone and remove the battery for 20 seconds.
Try the procedure again and this time it should charge fine.
People have had white screening when using there phone or when switching on there phone.
The EROM Must have a power command like a BIOS on the computer does and this is why SE are saying and forcing the EROM update to the service centers. So when you take your phone in, the EROM will also get done.
This is why SE update service doesnt currenlty work.
To update the EROM you have to press 2 and 5 while connectin the phone.
To updae the Firmware you have to press c while connecting the phone.
Currenlty SEUS only supports the C pressing and not the 2 and 5. SE are trying to adapt so it will either do both, or you will so the EROM as well.
Hope this helps.

So if I already have the R1ED001 firmware but have R3A011 EROM, am I able to use Wotan just to update the EROM or would I need to do a complete re-flash of the firmware at the same time? |

Some people on here have said you can just update the EROM. As per SE you can just do the EROM.
However you still have to buy a credit from wotan server as the Erom doesnt update. The Erom is free and the credit isnt used. The Credit then can be used to update the software at a later date or re do the R1ED001 again.
Hope this helps |

@darrengf
Many thanks for the response. Seems like being a guinea pig and trying things out before others has made you the font of all knowledge
Lastly: this EROM shouldn't overwrite any data as it's more or less the BIOS of the phone yes? |

It wont overwite any data at all.
Knowledge is power and power is knowledge !! (I think)
@sahran
As Wotan Server says, you dont have to have a paypal account. You can also pay via kagi.com
when you click on purchase use the Kagi function at the bottom.
Other wise than that, MSN them or email them.
Hope this helps

Correct me if I'm wrong:
Why doesn't SE adapt Wotan easy way to upgrade EROM? When this EROM issue was out, Wotan readily and easily released a new client that worked like a charm and was free..and took just 5-10 secs. Won't such a similar client by SE work in this case? One more, will FOTA in our handset work regarding this EROM Upgrade? I'm afraid it won't..so sad.

Just a follow up...
Bought a credit via Wotanserver (will keep it for a rainy day!) and downloaded the latest client. Wotan detects that the EROM is out of date and prompts you to update it, which took all of 10 seconds. Job done.
Nothing has been over-written by the process and boot up did seem a fraction faster from what I could see. |
