guys, think realistic.. would sonyericsson release a new phone that is called CyberPhoto and the pictures it takes will be worse then the k750? Maybe it's not a revolution in the mobilephone cameras and you desides if you want to upgrade, but i think you have to wait and say it sucks.
Look at GSMArenas camera review with N80 vs. K800 and some pics are compared with k750, it's not so bad pics taken by k800, but well it is not a BIGBIG different to the k750 camera after all but then this is a early release of k800 firmware. We just have to wait and see and we could just speculate now until there is a FINAL release of firmware.

I think those who cannot afford the K800 are finding all the problems with it to make themselves feel better about not being able to get it, rather than not actually wanting to get it.

to be honest i'm quite impressed with the pictures; 3.2mpixels doesn't nessarcarily mean that the camera is any better than the k750 with 2mpx, it just means it can take picture that are going to have 1.2mpx more.
has anyone read the review on mobile-review, the stuff on there is what made me want the phone, 3g rss feeds, stuff like that.
i think sometimes people lose sight of the fact that this is a phone after all, it's designed to make phone calls, all the extra stuff is just a bonus.
if you want digital camera quality pictures, go and buy a digital camera. |

The firmware version on alexlui's K800 is different than on the others taken earlier sample photos:
R1CB001 prgCXC1250215_HONG_KONG 0.0
There is a difference: earlier f/w used exposure time 1/10s on flash exposures while alexlui's K800 uses 1/250s.
But all f/w versions this far do push the ISO sensitivity to the NOISY 400, while K750 + MXE-60 combo uses ISO 200.
Now then by using the flash you manage to damage the subject in two ways: by destroying the natural, cozy atmosphere with harsh direct flash light (cast shadows behind the subject) AND you'll get all the NOISE you ever wanted to dissappear in the first place. Congratulations, Silly Engineering!
On the other hand; if ISO sensitivity would be lowered the output power and reach of K800's flash would be poorer. Balancing...
Seems like my K750 will be the first and last camera mobile, if this is the path SE is going to follow....

Personlly I think some of the pics taken are much better focused than a K750 especially of objects at a distance....K750/W800 takes useless landscape pics seems that the K800 fairs better in this area...the low light pics would almsot be the same without flash since the seenso wil be almost identical to the K750 one except for the fact that its 3.2Mpx...dunno why people arte cribbing so much |

I have been waiting for this phone to launch for over 3 months. And I am sick of that waiting.Tommorow I will buy the K750. K800 is just a K750 with higher resolution and bugged firmware.I don't want to wait another 3 months until K800's firmware is patched. And I don't want to pay a huge amount of money on this, when I can buy the K750 with only 180$.When I will consider to upgrade my K750, my next phone will need to have a QVGA video camera at least, 5 or more megapixels, bigger screen, bigger screen resolution, no bugged firmware.
If you have a K750 and u want to buy the K800 to "upgrade"... I say it's a really bad decision...you should wait for another "K series" phone to be released.

and we should care about this why? I'm getting more than a little tired by people signing up for this site just to state what they are going to do. WHO CARES!? Bring some valid input to the discussion, not meaningless statements like "K800 is just K750 with higher resolution..." ESPECIALLY when the differences, between the two phones and more specifically THE Improvements have been covered NUMEROUS times in in this thread!
Buy whatever you want, but next time bring something to the table when you post on a DISCUSSION thread. |

Almost definately! Hopefull when the FAR plug-in gets an update they can incorporate the K800, and therefore we can increase quality with that too.

What's a FAR Plug-in? Googled it but only coming up with WinSCP plugins as a File manager of some sort. |

People don't realise that this phone (JUST like the K750) has FIXED Aperature and it is FIXED at F2.8. What that means is that you have VERY Shallow Depth of Field.

Tervel,
It seems like you are focusing too much in facts concerning 35mm format cameras. Let me tell about my depth-of-field calculations:
I refer to the 2MP camera sensor of K750 as it's physical sensor area is known. K800's sensor might be larger, how much, we don't know.
K750's 4.8mm lens gives angle of view equivalent to 40mm lens of 35mm format. With aperture 2.8 focused on 1meter the depth of field would range 0.70-1.75m while with 40mm lens 0.96-1.04m, at 10 meters distance DoF of 4.8mm lens would range 1.89m-infinity while 40mm lens ranging 7-17.7m. Hyperfocal distance of 4.8mm lens is 2.3m, 40mm lens 22.6m. Quite a difference?
That's enough of the "very" shallowness af aperture 2.8?
If you would take a closer look at those samples posted by alexlui by using ExifReader, you'd notice how his K800 failed to focus properly because alexlui was pointing the focus area at dark area without clear vertical detail, on which autofocus could "bite". Twice the Exif data could state the SubjectDistanceRange being "Close view" as it should have been "Distant view" See this example:
Several earlier samples elsewhere have documented the struggling autofocus of K800/K790. Nothing to "bite", nothing to focus, quite simple.
Talking about SubjectDistanceRange my findings after extensive field tests on focusing using my K750 are following:
Macro: ~7.5 - 22 cm
Close view: 22 - 95 cm
Distant view: 95 cm -
K800 probably won't be much different, we'll see whenever anybody cares to test... not me because I have Zero interest in this "upgrade".
EDIT:
Today's lesson: A person who cares about image quality would point the camera's focus spot at suitable focusing target (at the distance of main subject), lock the focus by pressing the release button half-way, and the re-compose the photo before finishing the shooting.
