@Stook:
I think you are incorrect.
Honami lens can have a small diameter, the quantity of light that will reach the sensor does not depend on the lens diameter but of the ratio of the lens diameter and focal distance, or apperture.
If we are told that the apperture is F2, it does not matter whether the diameter is small, it means the focal distance is equally small so the right quantity of light corresponding to F2 reaches the sensor.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-number
@Jojotaro:
For a given apperture, If we have a small lens diameter, it means we have a correspondingly small focal distance and then a wider angle of view. Angle of view depends on the focal distance according to the same link.
I do not think we need to worry about the diameter of the lens, if it has a F2 apperture and 1.7 micron pixel pitch, it will have one stop advantage over nokia 808.
Then it is a battle between Nokia pixel combining algo and sony BSI and noise reduction tech, but starting with a full stop advantage, it sounds difficult for Sony to lose the IQ battle.
Edit: talking about low light shots here, which what i am interested in

If Honami can produce a decent looking iso3200 image at full res then it wins by a mile but I don't think it would be as good as as RX100 at the same ISO setting.

NOKIA will present next week the next Lumia Flaggshipp! A cameramonsterbiest with 41MP resolution + Xenon light...
"The shipments of Nokia Lumia 1020 will hit the stores on July 22 and the smartphone is expected to go on sale in the first week of August."
So I think NOKIA win this battle vs Sony in best camera... Honami will have no chance...
And don't attack me! It's just my opinion...

The cameraphone will be available few weeks later after announcement!!! That means August for sure! So I think NOKIA win this battle vs Sony in best camera... Honami will have no chance...

Well in fairness, 41MP is useless on anything other than the main purpose of the phase 1 implementation which is oversampling, while daylight shots are great with pureview mode disabled, nightshots at full resolution are just as bad as tiny sensor smartphones could produce. and Honami is expected to outperform it pixel by pixel. anyway aren't we talking about Sony rumors here?

the camera topics being discussed in the previous post were related to Honami, so it's part of the rumors as far as objectivity is concerned, unless we only discuss about what will be the next xperia device and set aside the technical details surrounding it

No worries King James, we shall see.
I hope for Nokia they make an outstanding camera, because the EOS will be a camera centric phone while the Honami will be a phone with outstanding performance in all departments including camera.
Also with Microsoft windows for mobile phones 8, it is not like Nokia has any other selling point outside the camera.
However, I beleive Honami has the potential to be better than Nokia 808 in low light for the above reasons.
Ramu told us that Nokia EOS should be weaker than Nokia 808.
So we shall see

@Shotokan81
lens size does matter. Even on DSLR the larger diameter lense matters. You can't force the light in - the small lens will create diffractions.
Don't know if its a right article but here is smth

If we get the production unit the we will see (probably have to buy the new RX100 as well) but I have heard that right now the max ISO on Honami proto is 1600 and its not very usable. |

Maybe let's leave it here stook.
I am not trying to contradict you, but you started stating there would not be enough light, and now that there will be light but diffraction: we shall see.
If you have info about photo sample, and if you can have access to it and share it is great.
I do not hope for iso 1600 to be usable, maybe iso 800 max, and this would already be great given how fast the camera is, basically capturing the same amount of light than Nokia 808 in 1600 iso because of the one stop gain.
So if you can share a 800 iso sample it would be pretty cool

Has anyone got a clue of the final name of Honami?
In my opinion it should distinguish itself from the rest of the Xperias and carry a new moniker, to point out it is a camera centric phone.
Sony Xperia CyberShot or perhaps just Sony CyberShot X

That's a code name (like Honami) and as such is not representable of final (market) name. |

Man... I am so disappointed for not seeing the appearance of Honami in that France event. I am so tired to keep following these speculations, rumors, and hypes about it. I am out, until it actually arrives.
Good luck with you guys. Don't forget other important things in life by the way. Honami is merely a phone that will eventually come. Work hard for your life and exams, whatever that matters.
