Samsung is using Intel chip in their budget Android tablet but thats about as far as it goes. Intel is not a long term solution for them, their foundrys will be running empty next year when Apple leaves for TSMC, they have no choice but to vertically integrate their own technology or lose millions. They have multiple new Exynos chips in the pipeline but not in time for Note 3 so it will use S800

That's a bold statement!
You do realise that Apple only have 10% of the PC market in the US and probably less globally.
It's a loss for Intel but it won't affect them that much because Intel inside is so much more than just personal computers.
They won't be running empty when they ramp up their SoC production and as far as I know, only Intel have a working processors based on 14 nm manufacturing technology in labs, so you can rest assured Apple aren't exactly doing themselves any favour if they are going to ditch Intel, just for the sake of controlling its own destiny.

Intel hired Android System Software Programme Manager not long ago, so in the future Android will run even better and that's when we will see the huge difference between Intel and ARM based SoCs in all areas.

@McKinley

I think you misunderstand what Jubei1 is saying.

Apple is not ditching intel in the macs but samsung in the ipads, ipods and iphones.
Apple may go to TSMC for now, but I think they may well go with intel in the future, if intel starts working as a third party foundry, because they would offer the smallest process and potentially best performance

As for samsung, apple is their biggest chip client, and you do not find such a client every corner.
And samsung itself is using more snapdragon than exynos, so even by getting a part of the foundry back from qualcomm,not even sure they do, it will probably not make up for the volume lost from apple. Not to mention that for an equivalent volume, the margins will be smaller, because they buy the chips back from qualcomm. So yeah samsung semi is in deep kimchi, i don't think it is a bold statement. The good thing for them is that they have a lot of cash to buy time and get things right, but they cannot rest on their laurels.

I was referring to Apple leaving Samsung, not Intel.

As for Intels domination over ARM, lets just wait and see shall we, every year Intel does something and their fans think they will take over, it has never been about performance but about time to market and price when it comes to mobile. A lot of OEMS also do not want Intel to be successfull in mobile because of they behave in the PC market, bullying and strong arming companies. Intel can hire as many software programmers as they like for Android, it doesnt solve the problem with native apps that have to be compiled for X86 architecture. Unless Intel gets atleast 50% marketshare then you are looking at serious fragmentation problems within Android

That means if a smaller company like Sony uses Intel chips for Xperia Z3 then some apps will not work until the developer compiles it for X86. Developers are too lazy to optimize their apps for all the ARM chips out there let alone for a completely different architecture. Next year Intel will announce Airmont that breaks another Antutu record and people will say Intel is coming just like this year. But in terms of design wins, Intel is getting left out because they dont offer anything special but want more money. Bay Trail for mobile wont be out until 2014 so comparing it to S800 is pointless, Qualcomm has a 2014 roadmap aswell. Comparing what is out there today Saltwell vs Cortex A15 and S600, it loses in all the CPU specific benchmarks except for Antutu wich as i mentioned is flawed.

@Shotokan81

Yes you are right, I misunderstood his post

@Jubei1

When Apple left PowerPC for Intel, the latter had processor much more powerful than the strongest PowerPC.
They were so powerful, they actually managed to run emulated PowerPC binaries with Intel inside, without too great performance loss.

We could be seeing something similar with Android, should it be needed and it's not that app as for today is particularly heavy for a processor that derives from its desktop siblings, to handle.
Major developers will most likely code for both architectures anyway.

Qualcomm have a roadmap for 2014 and that's sadly there where they will be playing catch up on Intel.
I don't own a crystal ball but if the leaked roadmap from Qualcomm is to be trusted, then it's a meh.

Sadly it seems that I am the reason for that almost three site long offtopic on "Intel/x86 vs Qualcomm/ARM - debate", I am sorry about that, wasn't my intention.

We should concentrate more on other important facts, like how were the cocktails tonight in Paris? Were they for free? With or without alcohol, and why did they need 4G?!

Ramu do you have any insights/leaks/rumors about this?

scnr... -.-^

Now really, I think we had some interesting things in between the last pages.
What's about not Sony mobile producing the image sensor? So it's the Sony camera division for sure? I didn't read this until that very moment in this thread, so I'm just curious. Sources?
And what are the consequences?
Medicore image quality for real or just Eldar beeing himself? ^^

@Tsepz:
I think I'm having I9505XXUBMEA for a couple of days, there's even a further update, MF8 (in Germany).
But either I do not manage to get HDR-video working or it has not been featured until now. I know there has been several news about this update and the hdr function, but I don't see it on my phone (9505).

What are the differences between the ZR and A?
so far Xperia A 16gb vs 8gb ZR internal memory, xperia A seems to have a notification light like the Xperia ZL but I haven't seen in on the Xperia ZR.
Nothing written about it anywhere, its not a deal breaker just a nice extra to break up all the empty space at the bottom of the phone.

I think both are same not many difference ..checkout sony xperia zr specif action

This thread just never manages to stay on topic. If there are no rumours to report/discuss, why must you feel the need to ramble on about unrelated things.

Stick to topic people, please!!!

OT
What is your guess for Sony Mobile Comminucation's financial results for Q2?
My guess
8 million units sold
$2.8 billion in revenue
Net loss narrowed down to less than $30 million.

@DexterMoser

There's a miss understanding regarding Galaxy S4, Some says it has a wonderful battery life, and some says the exact opposite... and some says it can't do HDR Video, and some says it can...

well to put it all together... both are correct... S4 has a good and bad battery life in the same time... and it can and can't do HDR Video also in the same time

to explain it

i9500 = Exynos 4+4 Cores = Very bad battery life, Overheating issue, the newer Exmor RS with HDR Video ( with updated firmware, the launch firmware didn't have HDR Video )...

i9505 = Qualcomm S600 = Very good battery life, no Overheating issue, the older Exmor R without HDR

Sadly I have the i9500 with the very bad battery life and overheating issues... the latest update really bring HDR Video but I didn't tested it yet
I tried several ROM's ( Three Middle Eastern roms, two germany roms, and planning to try a russian rom also ) there's some changes, the latest germany rom has better battery life, less overheating problem...

Samsung devices since S3 ( or maybe from S2, including S3, Note 2, S4 ) has a bug with some SanDisk microSD's... it keeps ejecting the card and some time mounting and unmounting... some time it can't detect it at all... SanDisk acknowledge the problem and said it's a bug in their microSD's, but the same card is working normally in every single other brand or card reader, so from my experience with it, it's a Sammy bug...

Trying out several roms, some roms are fine, having the problem rarely like the older germany rom, while the newer rom or two of the Middle Easter ROM's has it very annoyingly... currently I have the latest German ROM, and the microSD basically is useless !!

Stick to the topic please, I don't think Samsung S4 or Intel BayTrail discussions are relevant to this thread.
If there is nothing to discuss, the thread can remain dead no problem.

What's your take on Eldar's statement about the driver issue?
For me at least it sounds he could be right.

i thinks he is one BIG BS!
the driver could not be optimized in a second, they will improve it when they will the launch phone, and they will keep on getting better with the updates.
it will not take 9 month to optimize the drivers !! just ignore Eldar he seems like a Troll with a microphone to me..
