Question: is this Eldar guy info generally genuine?
Because it sounds to go against the one sony objectives.
What happened to past phones, assuming true, may not reproduce because it is the same guys doing the rx100 II and honami camera, so they know how to make the software to go with the sensor by the launch date...

It's often good to take what Eldar says with a pinch of salt. There's often truth but it's covered in a whole lot of bias and exaggeration.

@Aurelius:
I know, I think I did not express myself right. Intel has no chance in terms of marketshare and/or as many features on one compact SoC, thats true.
But I guess Intel will take the lead when it comes to performance per watt, and to be honest that is way more important for a mobile device than to have the highest benchmarkscore.
@KurtDean:
Well Eldar may be right with the image sensor. The S600 variant at least uses the 13MP Exmor R (without S).
As a consequence this may be the reason for the lack of HDR-video function on the S4 at the moment.
Enough offtopic from me, sorry about that.
So it's good to hear that the sensor is made by sony camera division, I guess.
But I'm sure even with not perfect software Honami should outclass every other android smartphone when it comes to IQ at ease!
Edit:
@Tsepz:
Sony Xperia Z, it definitely uses the 13MP Exmor RS, capable of HDR video unlike my S4
Honami, how long do I have to wait for you

So.... nothing new from Sony this morning, except maybe the drinks?
A bit disappointed sure, but also glad because now there isnt anything announced that i feel i must have. So i can go ahead with my plan to buy the ZR which just released here in Sweden. All i got to do now is wait for it to show at my local store so i can get a feel for it. And the order it online. So the big question now is which color? |

@Aurelius, yes Qualcomm may have that for now but once Bay Trail is being completed, it should comfortably beat Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 in every single test you possibly can throw at it.
It's not all about hardware which Intel already excels in, It's when big software developer support Intel architecture we will see the paradigm shift.
@random
You can't just dismiss Antutu scores as nonsense, not that I care too much about those myself.
The fact it has scored well above 40k at just 1.1GHz is mighty impressive.
It shows it has proper oomph for phablet/tablet usage.
I would want to see Bay Trail-T duke it out against Schnapsdragon 800 in graphic heavy tests.

The reason Intel CPUs do so well in Antutu is because Antutu team is using a very old compiler for ARM CPUs, it doesnt even support NEON!, the X86 compiler is however much more mature. It was the same with Saltwell, it dominated Antutu but lost to A15 and S600 in geekbench and all the other tests.

+1. Anyhow Intel may be able to compete performance wise but never with cost anyway. They like to charge premium for their products. ARM strongest point is price imo

I can say that I'm impressed by Intel's processors. A friend of mine has a Razr I and every time I see him using it Chrome, for example, and not a single lag, nothing. His phone might have less apps? Yeah, but I didn't noticed a SINGLE slowdown on his phone. My S ofter struggles with lag, specially with Chrome...

Re Intel: it's not just about performance/watt, it's also integration of radios (incl LTE), WiFi etc to make a complete package with a competitive price. |

I quite relieved the day is about to over, after crazy France invitation. Only for local press to show the Z Ultra. It won't be any good to introduce 2 new flagships in less than ten day, across two continents.
******
Intel will include LTE baseband sometime in 2014, they already did something that quite amazing, if I'm not read it wrong.
and also heard that Samsung is seriously considers to throw it crappy Exynos out of windows and put Intel chip in their tablet. (Qualcomm in their new lines of smartphone as it happen with S4 mini and possibly Note 3 later this year).
about Exmor R/RS in Samsung S4, I think that related to supply issue.
13MP Exmor R is same as T / TX and V which is not bad only HDR-hardware that missing.
while Exmor RS Sony put it in Z / ZL and also few others models below they need to secure it.
Samsung S4 Exynos has limited part supply, they can't squeeze the Exynos out timely manner.
It's Snapdragon's counterpart sold more in something like 8:2 ratio.

there are Broadcom, MTK, and Huawei and a few others I forgot names that started late into mobile SoC, but some of them are catching up. Qualcomm is big right now because it was the only one entered the market and made some thing that worked.
Out of all, I think Broadcom's current protfolio will allow it to catch up quickly and maybe surpass qualcomm. other probably will need some time to develop their competitive radio solutions against qualcomm's package right now. Intel could very well be in catching up mode for many years to come just like its competition against AMD for graphic core in CPU. I still remember the first Intel CPU with graphic core can't play any decent games came out two years before that Intel CPU even with lowest graphic setting. |

Samsung is using Intel chip in their budget Android tablet but thats about as far as it goes. Intel is not a long term solution for them, their foundrys will be running empty next year when Apple leaves for TSMC, they have no choice but to vertically integrate their own technology or lose millions. They have multiple new Exynos chips in the pipeline but not in time for Note 3 so it will use S800

Sony france did organise a meeting this morning.

http://www.frandroid.com/sony[....]watch-2-prix-et-disponibilites
Sony Xperia Z Ultra: 729 euros
SBH52 : 119 euros
SW2: 199 euros with plastic bracelet and 249 euros with leather bracelet
That is a ridiculous price and seems inline with the price in the Netherlands.
