We need to open a new topic in Softwares section of Esato for the ''Aino Firmwares Overview''
Any volunteer?
Yes SE can do all the menu ''touchable'' if they want with a single additional code line in their FW, but they wont because of Marketing strategy

would sell more Aino's if it had full touch. At least the main menu.
I will do some research to previous FW and start it. Any suggestions?

Hmm, screen was not responding again. So it's not the FirmWare. I'm not ready to open it up and check connections.
What do you expect of a FW thread? A simple list, with bugs and extra's ? There will be loads of wishes and complaints posted.
I'm willing to host it but everything is already in this thread. Maybe it's a waste of space?

Just read all 89 pages. Took a long time!
2 questions not yet seen.
1. When playing movies (the free ones downloaded as part of the promotion) they loose sound after a while. Was watching "Lakeview Terrace" and the sound gradually disappeared after 20 odd minutes until there was complete silence. The awesome video quaility remained, but when I decided to stop the movie the touchscreen wouldn't respond and I had to remove the battery. Same problem occured with "Angels & Demons". Real pity because the movie looks great on the phone. Any ideas?
2. Wifi is not finding my home network. My previous C905 found it without problem. Any suggestions?
(Note: This message is a much shorter version of my original message which was lost when I went to post it! Let's just say I swore a hell of a lot and even banged the keyboard against my head in frustration! I'll include the rest of the message when I'm not so tired and frustrated! Arrrggghhhhhhh!!!!!!)

Is your wifi SSID being broadcast? Have you tried to manually enter your router id and password?
With videos, I dont think it can handle files over 300mbs very well. I transferred Jurassic Park onto it and the last 20 minutes of the movie the sound goes out of sync and the screen becomes unresponsive. You can close the video by sliding the phone open and closing the file in the normal media menu.
I also have ZOOLANDER video and it works 100% fine. That movie only takes up 288mbs, Jurassic Park takes up 400mbs.
I've never played videos on any of my phones so I dont know if its an issue with the aino or a general problem with the SE OS. Hopefully its a minor issue and that SE know about it and hopefully fix with a firmware update.

i'm not sure about watching movies online via the aino....
i had these mp4 movies on my aino encoded with mpeg4 and aac with a screen resolution of 432x240. they are G.I. Joe 747 MB, Bourne Ultimatum 350MB, Transformers 633MB and The Abyss 614MB. all the movies play very well without any lag or stuck in between the playing.
i did encounter the touch screen unresponsive situation when trying to delete one of the movie file but that was solved in the normal media menu (as mentioned by angryman)

@hihihans
Every single SE model has it's own FW topic in the Software section, it's just to be more specific about the different FW out there and what are the ones that will come up.
Bugs found, corrected bugs and enhancements are welcome in those topics, I am sure you have already read on of those like C905 or W995 FW topics

Yay, I've just discovered a nice feature in Aino.
This was also possible in K700, but they removed the option in later models, until now it seems.
You can send a jar via mms.
That's great. That means you can send games and apps to friends via mms. Yea, I know, not usable for a whole lot of people, but for me it's great! |

Well you need to have the jar in the Other folder or something. You can't send installed games (luckily, because that would make it too easy for pirates to copy games).
But if you download jar files from e.g. Getjar, copy them to your Other folder, then you can send them in MMS.
Mark the jar file in the file-explorer, and select to send as message.
In other SE models the "Send as message" option can't be selected, which I think is silly. I've missed this feature since my K700. Glad to see it's finally back. |

Attempting to connect manually results in "Out of Range. Try Again" warning on phone. C905 was connecting fine to the same network. Strange!

Some thoughts about the Aino.
I bought it a week ago to replace my C905. i love the C905 but after it's 3rd earpiece failure I'd had enough! The first 2 were fixed under warranty, but this time around the warranty had ended and I thought "That's it, I'm over this!" I was waiting for the X10 to release, but it's still a few months away, so I needed to bridge the gap. After some research the Aino looked closest to what I wanted.
My impressions after a week:
I love the touch media interface. Works quite well and impresses those who've seen it. The smooth front of the phone and the large screen is a welcome change. I also like how compact and light the phone feels after using the C905.
The bluetooth range simply blows the C905 away. The bundled MH100 stereo bluetooth headset works very well and has great voice pickup in noisy environments. The Aino also works very well with my Altec Lansing Backbeat stereo bluetooth headset.
Battery life is awesome! I used to charge the C905 every night and even had a spare battery and car charger because after 7 hours of playing MP3's it would have used half the battery. The Aino has only used a quarter of the battery in the same time!
The loudspeaker works very well for listening to audio without using headphones, and the media player is a great improvement over the C905.
My only reservation is the camera. It simply doesn't seem as good as the C905. I'm running the newest firmware, but the photos lack sharpness. Almost like they were taken in a fog! The shutter button is hard to depress fully and I find it much easier to use the touch screen for capture. It's quite a neat feature being able to focus on a point on the screen and have the photo then automatically taken. VGA video size is welcome after the QVGA of the C905, but again there lacks the sharpness I'd come to love! And the sensor suffers from a strange effect of being over sensitive to vibration. Strong wind will make a video look decidly bad. The same thing occurs with the slightest of movement when taking a photo.
So, the Aino seems to be an upgrade in most areas over the C905, with the exception of the camera's performance. Perhaps future firmware updates will help. It's great that they included a torch function, but I'm disappointed they removed the Walkmate application! Bugger!
