@Radiux399 i think that you have the zoom working when you took those photos ??? That's the reason why of so bad quality

DonJuan: Its not a night shot. Its daytime.
Borg: No, its not zoomed in. Its a 100% view (1:1) crop of the full image.
Basically, everyone here is showing tiny reduced size 800x600 (or less!) images from their phones. Of course a 5 megapixel image is going to look good when its shrunken down to 0.5 megapixels - its 1/10th the size! What i'm trying to demonstrate is that looking at the image in its full resolution has tons of noise and artifacts. I've looked at hundreds of shots taken by the K850 on Flickr, and they ALL have varying degrees of this noise. I'd like to see a 100% crop of a K850 photo that doesn't exhibit this. |

oh i see, why are you worrying about this though, how often do you print your pics out?
thank you borg

It's because of "sensor size". K850 and T650 cameras have same(or near?) sensor size:
...A hefty-megapixel image sensor, however, doesn't ensure amazing photo quality. Other aspects of the camera's optics and electronics play important roles too. For example, a 6-megapixel sensor in a compact camera will be in the neighborhood of 7mm x 9mm in physical size, but a 6-megapixel sensor in a digital SLR will be 15mm x 23mm or larger. That means that each of the photosites (photosensitive diodes that collect one pixel's worth of light) on the DSLR's sensor is physically bigger. These bigger photosites collect more light and result in better image quality and reduced digital noise.
from "Digital Photography Pocket Guide, Third Edition"
solution: use "PSP", "PS" or other photo editing tool to reduce digital noise, then shrink pictures to 3MP or less.

Thanks for the explanation. I know that most real cameras have a larger sensor, as well as a larger lens. However as far as I can tell, the T650i has a much smaller lens compared to the K850i.
However, noise (as in low light noise) isn't what i'm really concerned with. Instead what i'm seeing is some kind of digital compression done by the camera software in order to hide the noise. The way pixels from one part of the image "spill over" into adjacent parts is usually from poor camera software, not from a poor sensor. Or perhaps it is the sensor. Either way, the one on the T650i is much smaller, and yet still manages to do a much better job. |

A 5 mega pixel camera can print out 8 x 10 inch pictures at its full resolution. I would only print out on 5 x 7 and the pic's look good to me. If i were viewing them at the full size you were looking at i'd be bothered. But if your not printing out your pic's 8 x 10 then why worry about it? |

k850 have a good sensor, easily one of the best on the market...it could have a little bigger/stronger lens, (special the focal lenght could be little bigger)...k850 have better(more sensitive) sensor then ex, N95, (just look at the low light, indoor pictures, they are allways better,(have allways best details).

what you mean? "bad noise reduction algorithm" or "fuzzy edges caused by lossy jpeg compression"? compression hasn't any effect on hiding the noise.

can you explain more(with pictures)?

your right the k850i pictures are heavily compressed
this is from the k850i camdriver
50 // JPEG_INIT_QUALITY = 80d <<< what it aims to compress the picture at
46 // JPEG_FIRST_QUALITY = 70d<<<< what it tries next to compress the picture at
3C // JPEG_LAST_QUALITY = 60d<<< what it tries last to compress the picture at
so u could end up with a picture compressed at 60% lol even k800i manages 90% = |

as long the pictures ends up good, who cares about some tech info
it take sharp macro, it take sharp portrait, it take sharp indoor & it take sharp flash pics....thats realy ok for me
k850 have one of the best camera on the market.....thats also realy ok for me
