Absolutely with you here... More RAM it's always useful... we are moving towwards heavier applications and games and on a system like Android (we are not talking about crappy iOs or WP8) more RAM it's a blessing from heaven in my opinion
still with 2 GB I will be ok! no problem here

Your quotes has actually nothing to do with what I'm saying. I'm old I remember many of those quotes but there's nothing TODAY that requires 3GB of RAM.

I agree with you, but looking at the lifetime of upcoming high-end's I would say 3GB will be used in the few months coming.. even with some of current usage scenarios like what @Ricky D and Tsepz_GP said, maybe your usage is different, but a lot of peoples - including me - switches a lot between games and other running apps, Android keeps all apps running in the background as long as there's free RAM, if you run low on RAM then the older apps will be closed...

The thing about keeping an app running doesn't stop at just keeping a game running with it's current state, but extends to switching faster between apps you always use... even when you run high RAM usage app between time to time...

Current 1GB smartphones like Xperia S, Galaxy S3 can work nicely but for a regular users, for high usage and heavy useage the Free RAM will become low ( less than 100MB ) making handling the running apps and running new apps slower and slower...

Having larger RAM surely consume more power, but the different is very low to consider...

The next step after 2GB of RAM is what makes manufacturers stops a bit, 4GB is too much for this time and expensive ( as there's only few single chip 4GB LPDDR3 modules around ), and 3GB is a little bit harder duo to the weird size, unless the manufacturer requires too many then the RAM maker might make a MCM with 3GB ( two dies, 1x8Gb + 1x16Gb ), or even making a stacking solution with 3 stacked 8Gb in one die...

Looking into the future, Android is capable of being a 64bit system but there's no need for it at this time as almost all mobile SoC are 32bit only... so for optimizing purpose the Android run-time libraries are all 32bit, but coming from 32bit and 64bit origin as the Linux kernel it self is actually 32bit and 64bit, but for optimizations and mobile SoC purpose the run-time libraries are all compiled as 32bit...
Later when 64bit SoC becomes the standard, Android can be compiled as a 64bit... Application wise, it will not matter except that apps will be able to use more RAM... There will be no need to recompile the apps as Android apps are running the Dalvik VM which handle all the rest regardless what the host OS is...

Copying josephnero's post from Z Ultra thread.

http://www.theinquirer.net/in[....]-xperia-z-ultra-handson-review

On Z Ultra Screen:

The picture quality of the Xperia Z Ultra's screen is among the best we've seen on a smartphone. At 6.4in and with 1920x1080 resolution, making this handset the largest full HD smartphone on the market, the quality outshines most of Sony's competition, including the Samsung Galaxy S4.

Can we trust displaymate? I think we should trust real world performance than display mate IMO or I'm wrong?
