So Archbishop Desmond Tutu is leading the re-enactment of Steve Biko's funeral:

Should be a very emotionally-charged re-enactment.

Expansys here have now dropped the price of the P1i to 294.95 (approx R4150).

@ Hobbster,
The fact that there's only one network selling the P1i here hasn't done this phone's sales figures any favours, nor indirectly promoted the phone's status amongst the buying public like say, the N95 did and still does. Thus less exposure, less demand etc. By comparison (price-wise only), the N95 still costs a hefty R5000-odd cash here, even though it was out quite some time before the P1i...
I think it's also just the nature of the cellphone industry beast, ie. prices drop as time goes by and 'latest phone exclusivity' demand decreases. Having said that, this is less the case with higher end smartphones like the N95 (which still has pretty much a peerless list of specs to further ensure its popularity), which usually maintain their naturally higher value far, far more than non-smartphone types.
Also, Mobilefun had 2 minor price drops over the past month, so perhaps Expansys's drop was to keep things on a relative retail par. Perhaps I'm clutching at straws, but that's my verdict (for now) on the pricing patterns here.
@ Jojo,
Hope you're having a good weekend there in Manila, mate.

That's one thing which is most appealing about the cellular market, the fact that if you're prepared to wait a while you can have the handset which you want at a decent cost as opposed to the cost of being FOTB, lol. Then there's also the guinea pig angle to consider, in that the early handsets tend to have "added features" aka bugs which subsequent releases don't have, provided the firmware's been upgraded.

The K770 didn't have the most glowing report on GSMarena's review:

Yeah it's a mid-range Cybershot-branded phone, but still...
@ Kryptik,
Ya, and it's for those 2 reasons why I can't ever see myself following the FOTB fraternity.

Well, we bought our first HD-ready plasma TV today. A couple of years ago, plasma would've been a no-no over LCD, due to the then-inferior longevity and the heat they used to generate. That's thankfully changed over the past few years.
A Sony 40" Bravia was tempting, but we eventually settled on a Hitachi 42". I'm not sure yet if it's worth paying the extra to Sky to receive the HD signal or not. Time to do a bit more homework and see what Sky can offer a long-standing customer, methinks.

@ addictcell,
I guess we don't have long to find out how accurate that is; even Samsung's G600 has been out for at least month or two now, and it was announced after the K850i AFAIK... better late than never, .
@ Jojo and The Hobbster,
Sorry only posting the pics now, but I've had to er.. 're-arrange' things a bit to fit and set up the TV with the rest of the home theatre stuff.
Here you go (not the best N73 indoor pics though...):
Heeeeeeeeeeeeyy yaaaahh...! LOL.
As you might see, I'm the antithesis of being brand-loyal or a fanboy: Yamaha CD recorder, Panasonic DVD recorder, Kenwood 100w x5 receiver, Sharp video recorder, TEAC tape recorder, Hitachi HD 42" (1066.8mm) plasma TV..and then the rest:
My precioussss Jensen 400W active sub, swallowing up the T630 , and Jensen centre speaker:
Jamo Tornado 350w front speakers:
Gale Gold Monitors used as the satellite speakers for Dolby Pro Logic:
Yeah, I like my noise... ..but I am (IMO) considerate towards the neighbours too.
