As usual, his review addresses most of a handset's critical points, but his negativity is still laughing matter. The guy would be a great football commentator.

I saw the picture and my camera takes a pretty much better pic then that. I don't need to post anything just to prove to you anything. Anyone here with a 995 can tell you the pic quality is better then that. |

I found this review interesting but kind of diverted off how good a handset the W995 actually is. I wonder if there's any truth in it being due at the same time as the C905? I tend not to agree as the W995 is the better looking handset more memory + larger screen + 3.5mm headphone socket + front call video camera/flash light (not on C905).
It's like comparing the K750i to the D750i they were the same phone but a different shell. The w750i is the walkman phone of it's class between them all there was no major changes. I feel the W995 has alot more to offer than a C905 so I would say it's more your K810i/C902 model up slimmer case more memory. The reason for the delay seems sensible due to the issues they had with the C905. I think SE will do well as they are catching up with other manufacturers now but I won't be choosing Satio instead I fancy a change with the Pixon 12.
I admit the C905 was hardly an innovation as compared to my LG Viewty the generation before it felt more modern, demand for large touch screen with divx support and HD. I think that's why this is the last of it's generation but looking back the T610i started all that icon grid menus and it never mattered what phone you got that had similar it was never a SE. SE always had more custom themes, better for games, always great walkman music and always the best camera phones. I agree in ways SE is dated, it's a 2008 handset, faulty C905, other manufacturers having better features.
What started me on SE was there phones always kept me interested. Unlike Smausung which always released boring phones. If you are looking at innovations that made phones like K850i/C905 which were catch up models you could say these ones: Nokia N95, Samsung G600, Samsung innov8. Again you could compare the W995 to Nokia releasing the N96 which was unsuccessful as it did little new after the success of the N95.
I think Samsung will do well as they have alot of mid range units out now plus some flagships. The Pixon 12 has finally got a good flash which means no need for a SE. There phones seem better now more interesting and after seeing how big the Iphone and the Samsung Omnia HD I am going for the Pixon 12 it has a smaller screen than Satio but it's more compact..more like the LG Viewty which was a fantastic phone.
When you think dated technology think back to when you had a K800i and the LG Prada came out..massive big screen, touch, memory but a poor camera. The Prada seemed a generation ahead of the K800i but I think there's still a market for these phones. I like the W995 OS but sadly it looks like it will be the last of it's generation.
There's alot of technology going about now Android, Smart Phones, Touch Wiz. There's choice at least but the W995 should not be seen as a flagship as such but a replacement for the defunct C905. It was a terrible phone hopefully if the reliability sticks on the W995 it will be staying around in shops for a year/year and a half maybe longer with it hitting cheaper shops.
Another point made which I agree is it's hardly anything new the W995 compared to the C905. Like I said it's a spare until I get a Pixon 12 however you might as well forget the C905 I liked the idea but the W995 does it how it should be done. Quality wise it's the best I've seen on a slider so far. The tougher competition means SE have fallen behind not so much the C905 generation as the first pixon lacked Wi-fi and a good flash. It will be tougher this time with the LG flagship offering HD, similar featured phones out there..phones like LG Cookie sell well as it's entry level touch screen. It offers less feature wise than the W995 but people will be sucked in by the touch screen thinking it's better.
It's a bit sad as a fan of SE phones for some time the K850i/C905 all went faulty on me. I always enjoyed the little upgrades but I guess screen wise it never caught up fast enough. Satio will do well as it has what other phones has but as I say tough market means it's not the obvious option but one at least. I think it's the last decent phone we will see using the software the W995 has..was there not talk of it being upgraded with new firmware next year anyway?
I guess times have moved on but I do like the W995...interesting times.. The review although negative has some truth but end of the day it's who buys the phone..hands off to SE marketing has been fantastic, reliability ect.. The W995 is one of the best music + feature phones you can buy so it should be enjoyed for what it is. |

I totally agree with the review, i guess i will have to back all this up.
What other flagship phones of 2009 bring to the table? As a rule, they come armed with a touch-sensitive display, brimming with new features and UI improvements
Where are the UI improvments? So far this phone is exactly the same as the W902 or W980. The interface hasn't changed one bit and it took SE a year not to edit the interface.
the Nokia N86 that is about 10 percent more expensive. It's a touchscreen-less smartphone, whose functionality doesn't leave the W995 a chance, and it's got a 3.5 mm jack along with splendid music quality. By the way, the volume of orders for the N86 in Russia is five times that for the W995.
Why are se trying to compete with the "big boys" at the end of the day SE positoned this phones againts the markets best and they expect to win, they obviously do to charge so much for yester-years phone. Come on the N86 as if the W995 is better than that, the N86 beats it hands down in all respects.
Who needs a phone from 2008 for over 600 USD that doesn't even have the updated version of its trademark music player?
I said that quite a few pages back, the W980 sells for £100 over here while the W995 costs £350, how does that make sense, when the W980 doesnt differ from the W995, in escence you are paying £250 for a 8MP camera, which is crazy.
doesn't even have the updated version of its trademark music player
What happend SE?? what happened to Walkman V4?? Why haven't se updated the interface yet, we are all sick of the same old media interface at first it was great but after a couple of years of the same interface and not one new improvment, they couldn't be arsed putting in skins. Yes the Yari has it, but its too little too late.
Its not that i think its a bad phone but because of the way its postioned it is a bad phone, a music flagship!! More like a mid range phone. |
