@MG37
Well if that is true is so much for Symbian UIQ Security as it is not meant to be possible to achieve this without Symbain Signing which they obviously wouldn't grant. but i suppose we should wait the couple of days and see. Unless you mean just removing the Orange customization? which do you mean? But if it is a true i would think a lot of people are going to make a lot of money pretty soon.

Marc,

I believe he's on about de-branding, not unlocking; 2 days ago, The_Laser(SETool creator) wrote:

And if that's the case, P990 will follow shortly. As I'm sure you're aware, it's already possible to be-brand the S60v.3 BB5 Nokias; people want the money too much for it not to happen.....

I had a look at the SETools site just out of interest - my M600i is Vodafone branded, I'm happy with it at the moment since it seems more stable than the SE version, but I might be interested in switching later on... did I read right that it costs $270 to get a copy of SETools to do this yourself? Or is there some cheaper way for a home user to do it without buying the whole software? Sorry if this is off topic...

There are two versions of SETool......

Standalone(Card) version, as you said, is $270.......

Server version, however, is like other client/server software......you pay for credits, these are taken by server as you use client, just like DaVinci/Wotan/etc.....

@Aware,
Just checked the sites and can't see anything but i hope you are right as it will make a lot of people very happy being able to debarnd and i assume load the latest firmware. I assume all future firmware upgrades would need to be done the same way with Se tool.

Hmmm, if SETool can edit the phone's CDA, you might not have to keep using it.......although if, as you say, SEUS checks IMEI(although there are two locations it can get the IMEI from) against a production list as well as CDA, then that's out as a solution........and you'd have to re-use SETool......

But I do think that someone will find a way to fool SEUS;(OT) I've already seen some revelations this week, with regard to the unhackable DB2020 K800:

And yes, it's only menu icons(for now), but the communication/operation is the important bit, and it obviously works..........

well I ran the SEUS, and got that I have the latest software installed (stated in the post name).
maybe the "user from this forum" did not use SEUS for updates?!
It definitely looks like it's a higher version for all of the sections...

That's the very same picture malinda posted on 2006-11-24 on page 72 of this thread so no proof about new firmware on SEUS!

There is only one Setool. Credits are only needed when flashing DB2020. DB2001 (M600/P990/W950) are unlocked and unbranded without logs according to the log in Setool forum.

The week is coming to an end and still no update. Oh well I guess we will just need to wait.

Does anyone think that because SE recently bought UIQ that they are reworking the firmware from the start to suit SE's needs?

@tkao2025 I'm gonna guess were prettymuch running the UIQ section of Symbian before the purcahse as they were paying for the development of the software prettymuh purely for themselfs. Besides actual handover of the UIQ section may take quite a bit of time to effect the work being produced.

I think its most likely that they are just late (if the date was ever set) just like the handset. P990 owners are on the whole patient.

Must admit you gotta be have patience as a P990 owner, just waiting for them to come through! The device has immense potential just hoping they can release it with this exact hardware setup!
