I have been using the S700i for the last 4 weeks. The camera, screen, and quality of construction of the phone are excellent but it has a number of major shortcomings. Till some of these are fixed I would not recommend buying the phone. The first 3 items I think are critical.

(1) The phone just turns OFF on its own. Does not restart till I remove the battery and replace it. ( a number of other people have this problem). This happens every couple days and sometimes I realize after a few hours that the phone has been off all this time...
(2) Sometimes if I turn off the phone I have to remove and replace the battery before it turns back on
(3) Atleast once or twice a day the phone reboots itself... normally during a phone call or using the camera. (common problem with other 700i users)
(4) sometimes when the phone has been used a lot and I try to take a picture it clicks and comes back to the Main Screen of the phone.. does not give the Save or view all or any other option. If I turn the phone OFF/ON then it works fine.
(5) If u have 500 contacts there is no way to search for their phone number (same when sendin SMS). All we can do is search by the 1st letter and then Scroll thru the rest.
(6) The vibration id very weak
(7) No simple BEEP as a ring tone

Points 1 to 4 that you have made are faults. You need to get your phone looked at. The phone does not have these as a usual bug. My phone , which I have had for over 3 months, has never done any of the things that you have mentioned in points 1 to 4.
Take your Phone back to where you bought it and get it replaced or repaired.
I dont have 500 contacts but I do have about 300. It can be annoying only being able to search by the first letter but this has been fixed in the new firmware updates, which I would get the service centre to do when you get the phone repaired.
The vibration on my phone is as good as I need and comparable with most phones that I have ever used, which is quite a few.
You could download a beep wav tone from the net and use that as a ringtone.

Hope that sorts out most of your problems.

well the wait is worth it a far better device than k700 and z1010 in my opinion, the fun doesn't go away so soon
although i haven't tried the v800 yet as i'm not with vodaphone-si but i think that this is one of the best phones by se, extremely well build, not a single scratch on the screen and everything is firm
the only gripe i have is the lack od duo pro, but i'm thinking of getting a p910 as i sold my previous p some time ago and i'm missing is so i'm not going to kill myself yet
anyway enjoy mate !

Its priced €533

just a quick question. are SE phones smartphones? or are they strictly restricted to Nokia? S700 is one heck of a phone but what is its OS/platform? If it doesn't have Symbian as an OS, can I install apps/prog in it like we normally do in Nokia smartphones? If yes, then this phone is something to drool over! If not, I guess I still have to do more phone-searching... [addsig]

I sold my Z1010 and use S700i now. It´s brilliant. The Display is fantastic and built in high quality.
No problems so far.

Camera – “unlimited” video recording length option is still limited
“Unlimited”, in very simple terms, means “no limit” – and nothing more. But in the case of the S700i and its video clip recording function, the definition seems to differ somewhat.
A user has the choice of either choosing the “limited” or “unlimited” video recording length option. Choosing the former option will restrict the video file size to around 100kB, which is the standard maximum size for MMS messages supported by most GSM networks – while the latter is supposed to allow for a recording to continue until a user decides to stop it or where memory is low (and the phone automatically stops it then).
Unfortunately, it seems that the S700i has also imposed a limit to the “unlimited” option, allowing video clips to take a maximum file size of around 970kB only. While the time length of a clip differed greatly, the upper size limit of the clip never changed during my tests – irrespective of whether internal or external memory was being used to save the file.
Again, this is an unfortunate software bug of the S700i, which should be addressed in the next major software revision for the phone (hopefully!)

Is that true?

Bought my S700i when it very first hit the U.K. streets. It wasnt even on the shelves in CPW. I lurk in Esato every evening, going through all the S700 threads.
I am pleased to say, I have never experienced any of the faults that others are having. This phone is so much better than the T610 it replaced, and that was so much better than the T68i that it replaced!

I bought it for 2 main reasons,
1) I loved the style of it from the first leaked pics, though, I would dearly love a black housing to swap it into!
2) I wanted a good camera phone for a holiday in Thailand, and trust me, It did not let me down!

On the strength of my S700i, I would heartily reccomend it to anyone wanting the feature set it has.

10/10 to S.E. for me.
If we evolved from apes, why are there still apes ?
