Z1 Daylight Photo Samples! They look fantastic to me.. most shot in superior auto mode.. a few with HDR mode

much more here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/alv1nw/sets/72157635506413882/

I also took the liberty of asking this reviewer to try the hand held twilight mode .. so we'll see if he does.

here's also a Z1 v. G2 comparison review..

comments of note:

"Sony’s Xperia Z1 features an impressive 5-inch Full HD LCD display with Triluminos and X-Reality technology. The screen is capable of 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, rated at a whopping 440 ppi. The Xperia Z1 has great viewing angles, and the colors really pop out. The brightness levels is also really impressive in this handset."

"Verdict: On paper, the Xperia Z1 and LG G2′s display’s are fairly similar, but the Xperia Z1 pulls out the trump card with the TRILUMINOS and X-Reality technology."

seeing that the back cover of the Z1 is only glued on again, like on the Z, I'm wondering if it's going to start to lift in the future and compromise the waterproofness?!

I'm currently on the XZ which has the lifted back cover and amazon will refund me what I paid in April because of this defect. I guess I'll put a few Euros on top of it and get the Z1. This way, I can get a new Z1 for 93€ (as of now, prices will surely go down quickly once it is released.)

Having currently this issue, this is of very much interest to me and also if the phone is going to heat up like the XZ and thermal throttling sets in....

Plus: Do you think, that 4k@30fps or 1080p@60 fps will be possible something in the future via a 3rd party app or a mod or even an official firmware update to 4.3. or 4.4.? I mean the chipset certainly supports it.

@drsoran2 - sorry to hear about your Z problems but glad it hasn't pushed you away from Sony. The video upgrades you asked about are certainly possible, though there is no way of knowing whether sony will implement it. I suppose if there is enough consumer interest on their blogs/twitter/facebook.. then they might stick it in a future update, if its not already there.

regarding whether Z1 will have the back cover and heating issues that i guess some Z's have, time will tell. According to the infographic for the ZU, they used a large copper sheet to dissipate heat. Maybe they used the same with the Z1. In addition, the Z1 also has a solid aluminum frame, which will also help dissipate heat faster and may help keep the device cooler. But ya.. like i said, time will tell. But, its great to hear that amazon is giving you a refund after 5 months! That's what i call service

the metal frame would probably provide much better heat control so most likely not, pretty sure Sony would have addressed the issue, might even be why they opted for a chassis design change

@DACHA So Z&ZL use VA screen as well? They are always believed to use TN screen.

There is no way the Z/ZL are using VA panels.
The best way to tell if a panel is VA or ips is to get a pure black screen/image and view the screen at an angle. If the screen glows white it's ips, if it retains it's blackness then it's VA. Even cheap VA panels keep the black levels in check when viewed at an angle, all ips monitors without a polarising filter go white regardless of quality or price.

@Geoffx.. it was a joke man. i think silly questions deserve silly answers. to know the number of screens left is a silly question to ask on this forum. thus i gave a silly answer with a 502.3 (five hundred two and 3/100th) screens.

As we all know in the UK the Sony Xperia Z1 launches on the 20th of September the same as the iPhone 5s/5c or so we thought. I have just read an official statement from a major UK netwotk that states the iPhone 5s will only be available to pre-order from the 20th with stock not being full filled anything upto 2 months later. My point is could the delay be the tipping point of Apple customers who are maybe board with their iPhone and were maybe thinking about jumping ship to Android. this could be a very good time for Sony as the will have the market leading Android smartphone and along with Xperia Transfer iPhone customers can make the switch very easy and not loose any data. The iPhone 5c however will launch on the 20th but demand is pretty very low ie in some some stores not 1 pre-order has taken place for the iPhone 5c. If Sony get their marketing right they could possibly temp loyal Apple customers away and be on to a winner with the Xperia Z1 if they wern't already.
I'm so happy 'cause today

If all retails units get this type of screen than Sony has a real masterpiece in their hands

The only thing people can complain about could be the size but if they don't understand that the top and bottom bezel make it easier to hold the device when in landscape mode then I wish them luck holding their device in landscape mode one-handed without covering the screen
This is the same type of design that Asus borrowed for nexus 7 2013 and that apple is supposedly using in their next ipad
