This wasn't the case for me. I didn't have to buy a credit.

But for the heck of it, I just bought one right now and upgraded to R1ED001. Couldn't stand my alarms not going off, I'm late for school almost every other day.

Hope this bug is fixed in this FW. I'll report some fixes as I see them.

Late for school every day, never did me any harm !!!

I have an unbranded k800i and i've made it work on the 3 network australia by simply entering the correct settings into it.

You'll find the required settings here, i know it says w900 but those are k800i settings that i posted:

thanks for that.

howd you go with updating the ERom? if uve tried it?

You can update the EROM by going to wotanserver.com. They do this for free.

Hope this helps.

I have a question for you all - just went to buy a credit, but it says that the battery has to be fully charged (for obvious reasons)

As there's no display or any indication the phone's charging, what should I do? I have no idea how much charge is in the battery, and don't know anyone else with that could charget the battery for me.. If i connect the mains charger in series would that work? I don't want it to get halfway through and then cut out, frying my phone!!! :S

Here is a list of a couple of changes / improvements in R1ED I have bumped into so far:

- locking the phone / pressing a key to wake the phone only brings the screen to a dim level of light, and not full -> dim as experienced with previous firmwares.

- alarms have all gone off so far (I wasn't late for school today - I'm actually in the University right now) Note: the volume of the tune that is played increases more gradually now. Instead of the volume going up WAY loud before you even get to find your phone, the increase is more smooth.

- position of the clock display function in am/pm large mode is bumped up above the date

- the print button when plugging the USB as others have noted

- screen contrast is up a bit - personally, I don't like this.

- call list bug has yet to come up again, haven't experienced it yet; only twice with previous firmware

- the camera, after taking a picture, saves a lot more quicker now. More than 100% quicker. It's almost instant.

- menu navigation is a tad faster, as well as image thumbnail load times

- pop up menu times have lengthened a bit to prevent accidental presses

- the keypad lighting "gradual dim" effect no longer exists when you power down the phone or lock the phone. It just turns off - identical to the K750i now I think.

That's about it for now. I'll add more as the days go by.

obentou: Nice list. Can't wait for it to be released. I understand if they need to take their time though.

It would be nicer to have one final perfect firmware than many more which require frequent updates. Sometimes the end-users are lack of time and 'energy' to do so. Not to mention intermittant failure-or dead phones- whilst updating..it's just fine that R1ED001 isn't released for free as long as the final F/W, say R1ZZ010 or something..as the ultimate one is uploaded at the end.

It's a lot faster when browsing through the thumbnails I've noticed.

Just what I hoped for.

There is no such thing as a: "perfect" firmware as long as humans design it. This is wishful thinking and naive. The best you can hope for is something that works well and has less problems as the one that preceeds it.

N82(YES), iPhone 3G, Shure es530, Nikon D300, more stuff. No more SE stuff, why am I still here?

I have more than one K800 some of them with the New Firmware and new EROM and Some of them with the Old Firmware and Old EROM.

I can say that on all my phones, there is no difference in any of the lag times in the menu from browsing to opening them. The Menu system on SE are already quick and as far as im aware there were no changes wrote for the menu Structure.

The fault is still there on the menu system. Press the menu button on the phone and then press no 7 (File Manager) just then click back, you will notice that its now called messaging, instead of File manager.

Parts of the GUI (Which is the software for the phone) was slightly re wrote
in the firmware and bluetooth fixes were implemented (a few bluetooth fixes)

Hopes this
