I don't really want to upgrade from my arc just yet (as hard as it is to say no to the beautiful phone) If no one here wants it, i'll probably stick it on ebay for about £400, though I'm guessing ebay and paypal will steal a lot of the money

It feels like solid plastic That word solid is in your message total ignored.
I'm proud in the build quality from Sony Xperia S it feels good and i drop the phone at least 10 times from 2 meters without any cracks or dents you will get in aluminum housing , no offend |

Xperia S is top notch. iPhone is nice - no doubt - but it's just not the same league anymore.
Small screen, boring design and childish UI.
Onscreen keyboard on X S works much better than in the iPhone.
My opinion, but it's so obvious for me.
As for build quality, iPhone is just sh..t - it cracks like a glass.
I love the phone. Waiting for .73 upgrade.
BUT, I still didn't sell my Arc. It's too hard! I just love it it was perfect companion for a year!

Ditto on point 1, need that battery fix .
I've also still got my Arc, tucked away in my drawer. I normally sell my old phones on Ebay, but something is making me keep the Arc for the time being (and it's not just that it will get ICS before my X S ). |

I actually did not expect that. Considering the HTC is supposed to have more powerful internals and all...
And ICS.

I'm having to use my Arc while my Xperia S is away being looked at. As much as I like the Arc it's not the same using it second time around.

Doministry,
As a long time member such as myself, I value your experience and opinion - bar none - and I say that with VERY few members here!
However, I don't agree with the iPhone.
"Childish UI" ... this is an ICON based UI - the very SAME ICON based UI used in:
Blackberry,
iPhone,
Android,
SE Java UI,
and just about EVERY Phone, smartphone ever made.
So I must conclude "Childish UI" is a 'lame' claim to defame iPhone. The icons in ALL iPhone apps hold better GUI "clarity" if you will than every other phone. Take a GOOD look at the iPhone icons viewed from full screenshots compared to the various screen resolution full Resolution. Approval for apps are done by a team that actually look at the icons through, the same eye-piece classical watch makers use.
Boring design. Everyone has their opinion, mine ... iPhone very economical (my soul is happy the majority of parts are highly recyclable & don't damage the earth we live off of; no I'm no hippy). Aluminum chassis is VERY sturdy and the 4S eliminates issues with signal strength (although I'm annoyed by slower acclamation of getting signal once lost; its slower).
"Onscreen keyboard on X S works much better than in the iPhone"
Hmm. I must ask ... how long have you used an iPhone 4/4S on-screen keyboard for? Have you first hand examples for those writing in traditional cantonese/mandarin or Japanese?! (writing in Glyphs) Don't say this may to be important as there is almost 2.5 Billion users in this market and WILL matter to ANY platforms success.
ALthough I'm very worried about iPhone's front and back glass - its the same as all Android phones currently - I've yet to break the glass on my iPhone 4 and now my iPhone 4S; we're not the careless typical users who's parents pay for our phones . lol.
Again I value YOUR opinion and I have tried the Xperia Arc's keyboard but its not as responsive as even a iPhone 3GS; great phone though.
That all said I'm STILL looking forward to trying ICS on Xperia ION and "S" models!

@Prom1
I hate to drift off topic, but a few things need to be mentioned
iPhone's do have an extremely childish UI, colourful little squares for people to press. Very basic and it's not the same as the icons found in Android, which are just more better looking and more 'mature'. Plus they can be customised with widgets and stuff...
Secondly, Apple and good for the environment? Ha don't make me laugh just take a look at the packaging the iPhone comes with to see how much Apple care. SE have actually done far more in this respect with the GreenHeart features.
While in the past I would have agreed that the iPhone keyboard is very very good, after trying out the one on the Xperia S I would say that this one is on par with the iPhone's one. It has come a long way but it was responsive and corrected errors well. Although I would say Android beats iPhone in this regard too, as Android users can choose different keyboards to what suits them. I use swype which means for extremely fast typing. On iOS you're stuck with Apples stock keyboard, so its worse then others because you have less choice.
I don't think worrying about the iPhone smashing is in the same league to Android phones, either. The amount of people I know who have had to get their 4/4S repaired because of smashing the glass just from a little drop is crazy. It's a stupid design, lets me honest here.
Just my opinion, and I think we should get back on topic now

So, anyone know when the .73 update is available - assume it's only for certain locations at the moment?
Also, I have a few fingerprints on the screen, but does anyone know if the screen/screen protector was coated with the anti-fingerprint chemical like the SGSII and iPhone? |

iOS does have a very "childish" GUI, although this perception is probably just due to the outdated graphic style.
I mean, all those bright and colourful buttons and exorbitant glossiness everywhere is not in line with modern graphics themes (it was 5 years ago). Nowadays it's all about (semi-) matte textures, minimalistic colour palettes, subtle gradients, minimal gloss and quasi-realistic 3D objects (e.g. for icons). ICS is a perfect example of those features and WP7 is an extreme. Here's a comparison:
In short, they sort of need to update their GUI.
Additionally, they also need to update their UI. It takes a bit longer to access information on iOS than, say Android (due to lack of widgets, simpler lockscreen, simpler menu categorization, etc.)

Here in Sweden the roll out started like a couple of days ago. However only for those having a branded phone from operator Tre. The rest are still waiting. |
