@EagleRider
You still have failed to explain about disabling functions and how you think this would help? or even work for that matter.
As far as unnecessary quoting goes you really are pathetic i asked nicely and you act the fool grow up!

I've just made a little test. First I restarted a phone after full three days and absolutely no errs or similar. Then I tested multitasking capacity. At this stage as I said before it is possible to (for example) listen music, use wifi, browse the internet while downloading multimedia file, answer a call, receive and send sms, all at the same time i.e. without automatic close of other applications. Now I did all that and then tried to copy something from a web page and paste it in the new word document. It ended with web closed as I expected. But before it I checked available RAM and could see that it needs a little more memory in order to be able to do it. So my conclusion is that even with a little bit optimised opera and some other applications the multitasking ability will definitely be elevated. And if they manage to reduce memory leak the new fw will be acceptable. |

And I think nobody thinks that... we are all just h o p i n g ... ! Same as we did when buying this crap in the first place... hoping that this one would not be buggy and crappy as it is.
So let's see... when this 'new' FW will really come to SEUS |

TBH given that so many owners seem to be having problems (I am happy with my P990, just for the record) I think it is better that SE really test the FW before release otherwise this whole issue will continue. But I don't think the new FW will resolve the issue that Symbian 9.1 + UIQ3 needs a lot of RAM and the current UIQ3 devices are probably short by about 32MB of RAM.

I am wondering why some users are satisfied and some are not with their P990i. Are we having different versions of firmware due to locality and phone version? I found that Auto Focus is not working for me, but have heard from many that theirs are working fine. If we are using the same firmware, how could this be? Is my hardware defective? |

I really beleive there is different hardware in some of these phones. I bought my first p990 on ebay from a guy out of LA that had one of the first batches of the p990. The phone was horrible would restart all the time and a lot of the features wouldnt work. Sold that phone and got a new one from a hong kong seller and this phone works great. Obviously it has memory problems but all the features work and barely ever restarts on me. Don't get me wrong I want a new firmware to fix these bugs but I use this phone everday for work with no real problems, I dont regret the purchase at all. By the way I updated both phones on sues to R7A so the firmware was the same.

well its very disappointing that P990 is having these problems and for me its quite frustrating because its my very first smartphone! That in my mind i am not loosing hope that SE will raise it's bar again with this new FW release! |

i don't think anyone satisfied with the poor performance... maybe yes for design.. like i do. But for business phone, the performance is less than enough.. for now, i think my W800 is more powerful to do a lot of thing |

I had my first reboot in order to increase performance. It should not be necessary if the FW worked as intended. |

I also think autofocus not working sometime.
Before press focus button, picture is clear, but after press the button, picture become blur. I do not know how it is auto focusing.

Anyway - no need to bring more of this into here - think we all just want what's best for our phones.
I will take your hint and grow up. Someday you might decide you want to follow...

I don't think it would be hard for someone to configure the phone to use the mem card as additional RAM where necessary. May be a little slower but thats better than a crash. Imagine having 4GB of ram in your phone
I had a strange problem where 3 alarms were set each day and would all go off, even though no alarms were set! I had to factory reset to clear the issue.
My phone has never restarted once though. It's a Voda on R7 FW.
My biggest gripe is the battery. I normally expect to have to charge a phone daily once it is 18 months old!

Using memstick as RAM would be way, way, way, way and way too slow. They never do it and I'm happy for that.
The real solution is simpler and unavoidable: just optimize the system code so that it just works. Even then there are limits to what the device can do, just because there is a limited amount of RAM and processing power.
Edit: of course they also could bring out devices with more RAM tomorrow, but that's another issue.
If you need more power and RAM, just wait for a few years for the technology to develop and hardware go cheaper, or buy a laptop.
