Hi Doc! You're right, they are beautiful-looking sliders, but out of principle I won't spend a penny on an auto-focusless :se:handset when there's others in the price range that do have. She probably wouldn't be that bothered about it as I am, as she usually has her small digital camera in her handbag anyway, but that's just my personal stance influencing the decision making process I guess. ;-)

She has one of those tiny SE J300i's. They're very basic but she's not bothered with specs at all, purely aesthetics n' ergonomics. Hence she's had no interest or urgency in getting something else. BUT she has been enjoying taking a good few pics with the N73 during this holiday, when she hasn't had the Olympus with her. So the svelte W610i came to mind. I've also thought of the new tiny Samsung ? 590, which has a 3mp cam with AF shoehorned into it. It also comes with a little 'tripod' stand with a weird mouldable base instead of 3 little legs found on a conventional stand. There's a special with them at the moment, ie. £99.95 (approx R1450) plus £70 (!) free airtime included if you opt for a Virgin Mobile simcard at Carphone Warehouse! I'll look at a few other options and then show her the actual handsets at one of the local CPW stores.

@ Falcon: Ya I must admit that neither of us have owned a Samsung before. Doubt she'll need it for anything more than sms, calls and camera. I'll do some research and check out various reviews on these new handsets at some point. Right now I'm on the road back to our place and we've only just passed Birmingham. We didn't end up going to Manchester this time, due to the wonderful, unexpected hospitality shown to us today by some of the permanent staff at Ewood Park, home of Blackburn Rovers. I have no regrets for spending much of the day there, 'cos they absolutely spoilt us. A cellphone pic documentary on what this club does for their local community soon; tomorrow perhaps.
