i haven't seen the offering yet, but assuming it's structured the same way as most AA share issues are these days, you'll probably need to put an amount down as deposit, with the balance being due at some future date, at which time you either pay the balance and take full ownership, or allow them to sell the shares held in your name, after which the profit generated by the sale is paid over to you. What i usually do when this type of scenario arises is to determine how much i'm willing to spend, then calculate what the balance would be. After that it's a matter of either setting aside enough each month to pay said balance, or if i have enough cash floating about *yeah right* putting it aside in some interest-bearing instrument, either unit trusts or money market. Either way, it's a good idea laying your hands on some of those shares...
Put a deposit? But cant I just buy them now?
I have unit trusts and money markets, they boring hehehehe wanna save up an extra 5k or so and play around with it. Im going to buy a 100 see what happens, wish me luck!

The Neo 1973, the first phone to use the open-source, Linux-based OpenMoko mobile operating system, has techies abuzz in anticipation of its October consumer release. ADVERTISEMENT
Though the phone's large, touch-screen display might evoke comparisons with the iPhone, OpenMoko's approach to software is the exact opposite of Apple's. Apple doesn't allow third-party software to run on the iPhone (Web 2.0 sites notwithstanding), ostensibly to maintain the company's hallmark smooth and controlled user experience.

So today Maq Washing Powder paid us an unexpected (but very very welcome) visit. What's more, they came bearing gifts The school at which i teach is one of the poorest around, and what most learners at other schools take for granted is a boon to my little terrorists. One of our biggest problems is the chronic shortage of desks, chairs, etc. Somebody somewhere came up with the unique concept of The LapDesk, and that's what they brought along today, a lapdesk for each child

Good on them Kryptik. That's awesome.Wish more businesses would help uplift some of the poorer schools.Like a timber business making desks and chairs and donating them or a stationary company giving pencils, pens, books ect It would make such a difference.Small little contributions in large quantities. |

Yeah! That's a really Generous act da Krysta. Many schools out there needs people like those to uplift them.Have you heard about the 1 laptop per child project. The production of these laptop has already started.I just don't know whether Mzansi's kids are on the distribution list. This is also a good project aiming to empower children and introduce them to the world of computing.

@da krypsta: The lapdesk is quite a cool concept but then on the other hand we have communities (in Cape Town) where schools are continuously vandalised by youngsters from those communities.
@Jmash: Already heard that they've started the project in Nigeria...some of the guys from Massachuchetts Institute of Technology were down in SA last year to launch the laptop at a AU/Nepad gathering.
