By the way i know this is an odd question but to whoever has one of these phones how good is the call quality. I am fussy about things like that. The last SE i got was K550i and the call quailty on that phone was so bad it distorted on highest volume to the point where i could not understand what the other person was saying. I really like the look and sound of this phone and i think back to the days of the good old T610:-)

I'll let you know in a few days as mine is on the way. I also have a K550i and W800 so I can do a pretty good comparison for you. |

I haven't really seen a lot of places that sell the black one.
Does anyone know what's up with that?!
I got a blue one on the way!

ever since i heard that at&t was picking up the k850, i closed the books on sofia and looked at the t650.
i got it from phonesource. real customer service, reasonable prices, and package got in in 2 days.
being a lifelong SE user this review is geared to users who have had SEs in the past. my last phone was a w850.
in the box
datacable
manual + software
weighted deskstand charger (allows you to piggyback a headset)
256mb m2
hpm-71 earphones
nylon form fitting pouch
eyecandy:
sexiest to date (nuff' said). slim, hefty, no chance for the dreaded squeak, matte surface resists fingerprints. eyecatching when you have it in your ear. i have the deskstand charger set up in the living room just cause it looks slick docked. i know looks are subjective, but this is a head turner.
ergonomics:
i do 2000-3000 sms/mo. this phone texters' heaven. number keys are all nicely spaced, and has the same tactile feedback as t68/t610. the WAP access button is positioned beside the "back" button. not good. ive had a ton of accidental keypresses backing out.
phone is evenly balanced, the weight adds a sense of security in the hand. surface texture helps keep the phone in hand except if your hands are very dry-it becomes very slippery.
battery cover a little funky. the whole back fascia comes off to access, batt/sim/m2. only time will tell if it will be a problem.
GUI
typically responsive through the menus, no sms lag. icons seem to have updated a tiny bit. more "smooth/cartoony".
i noticed the the other 240x320 themes are not fully compatible. the highlights are shrunken lengthwise. 3 flashbased themes. one theme chages depending on the time of day and certain holidays
mediaplayer is stripped down. sort by artist, tracks and playlist.
screen
bright, very detailed, good color representation.
audio
all in all at par with the w850. adequate, and clear in both incoming and outgoing calls. speakerphone is adequate as well- my test is if the other party does not know theyre on speaker (it passed). same as with other SE's
music speaker is as loud as w850, no crackles, no hiss, no clipping. earbuds are good as well, "sounds whole".
all in all the music sounds the same as any other SE. i will not run it through a spectrum analyser, or a decibel meter. if it does not sound "tinny" or "thumpy", its all good in my book.
RF
same strength as w850 (which is my RF king) but seems to poll the tower slower than the w850. its still typical jumpy RF meter but can hold and make calls clearly on 1bar. typical SE.
camera
not quite a cybershot but will take good photographs for 4x6 prints. camera lag is around 2 secs shot-save. 8 scene settings. i'll leave the judgements to the eye of the beholder (see posted photos)
conclusion
the phone is a perfect example of brains and beauty. its perfect for someone looking for sleek understated elegance with good accompanying features. this phone screams "class"
-a good upgrade for someone with a 2mp phone.
-a good SE starter phone for someone looking to jump in the SE waters
-spec heads, the phone is not for you.
-for people with 3.2mp phone, the phone is purely a change of scenery as it will not bring anything new to the table.

Nice review. I REALLY like this phone, and would have gotten it over the K850 I just bought if it only had US Band 3G...

Hello, guys!
Have anybody heard of R8BB01 FW yet? What are the features it adds to the phone?
Is the firmware out or that the name of the upcoming firmware?!
No idea, speaking frankly. Think it's 'noname' FW so far but I used 2 come accross it on some foreign sites. Available for download already...

Well I just got my T650i in today. Been playing with it for a few hours, so I thought I would post my impressions up.
First the looks. This phone looks gorgeous in pictures, and looks even better in person. Its classy, stylish, and elegant - without looking gaudy. This does not look like your typical plasticy cell phone. I picked up the midnight blue version, and i'd have to say that I made the right choice. The blue is *very* dark, and in dim lighting looks almost black.
The build quality is pretty damned good. The phone feels dense and heavy in your hands. The matte texture feels very interesting in your hands and resists fingerprints. The metal parts on the other hand, do not. The entire back cover comes off with a small latch on the top of the phone, and snaps back on with ease. The cover is secure, and i'm happy to say that this is my first SE phone does does not seem to creak in any way, shape, or form.
The number buttons are a bit on the small size, but the spacing between them is good, as well as the tactile feedback. The two soft keys on the other hand, are perfectly sized and comfortable to use. The D-pad is great as well. The camera shutter button has the perfect amount of travel for focus and capture. The volume slider is far too recessed and difficult to access without looking at it and using your fingernails. This phone does NOT have a play/pause button.
One interesting thing I noticed is that my D-Pad appears to have a thin clear coating of some kind over it. I do not know if all T650's have this, but it seems to me that it would be impossible for the paint to chip off the d-pad on my phone thanks to this coating. Either this coating wears off very quickly, or the coating is something that SE recently added to the phone to prevent the chipping of the paint due to complaints. The build on my phone is very very new, and thats a distinct possibility.
Now onto the screen. Simply put, this is one of the nicest screens i've ever seen on a handset. The DPI is fabulous, the colors rich, and great black levels. The viewing angle is also unbelievable - the screen is perfectly visible even from extreme angles without a hint of "negative image" or brightness/color shifting. However, I do have some minor complaints. First, there is no way to turn the automatic brightness adjustment off. Though i'll probably get used to it, I find the constant dimming/brightening of the screen a little distracting. Next, I find that the whites on the screen appear to be a bit yellowish when the automatic brightness adjustment is on its lowest setting (ie. when you're in a dark room). Lastly, and probably the most annoying to me, is that my screen appears to give off a very faint high-pitched sound when active. When simply looking at the phone you won't hear it, but as soon as I bring it up to my ear, its clearly audible.
This phone has NO sleep clock mode.
I have not had much time to play around with the camera so i'll be brief. But from my limited testing, it seems pretty good. Pictures are taken and saved quickly. Low light is a bit on the noisy side but still sharp and clear, with good colors and no excessive noise reduction smearing. Pictures are reminiscent of a K750/W800/W810 (a good thing in my book).
Finally onto the speakers and call quality. The speakerphone appears decently loud, but crackles up at high volume. The quality is overall poor. As for the earpiece, its similar to most recent SE phones. Good bass, good midrange, no hiss. Not quite as "dynamic" as my W800, but still pretty good. Unfortunately, I have two major issues here. First, the earpiece is still WAY too low - even lower than my W800! Now, I don't know if this phone has some kind of special audio enchantment modes where it detects how much background noise there is and adjusts the volume accordingly; but as it is, I don't think its loud enough to be used outside in a decently loud environment. I'll post back later with impressions once I use the phone outside. The 2nd problem is that there appears to be a slight "rattle" in the earpiece at higher volume. Not crackling, but rattling, as if something is loose in there. Overall i'm very disappointed in the earpiece.
If anyone has any further questions, i'd be happy to answer them. |
