Awwww come on Paul, you know more about bloody computers than I do and you know it
What kind of crashing? Freezing? Error messages? All applications or only some? Random or at certain times? It's important to know 'cos it often indicates whether the problem is hardware or software...
If you get rid of Vista, stick SUSE Linux instead of Ubuntu, much betterer And there is a free legal version of it too, called openSUSE I think...

Ooooh, Yuk!
Overheating maybe? Restart, go into BIOS and check the temperatures?
Could be memory as well but that more frequently causes restarts rather than freezing.
Also possibly battery / power supply.
If you haven't got anything important or irreplaceable on there, you could always do a clean install of Vista just to make sure it's not a software problem.
But this sounds like it could be a nasty one to me, it might need to be sent off to be looked at

Well, yes in a word. More power = more heat. Especially with laptops, if the heatsinks / heatpipes become slightly detached from the CPU and / or other chips, or if the thermal grease dries out, or if the ventilation fans become clogged up with dust or stop working altogether then said chips will get very hot very quickly.
Freezing up is a very common symptom of overheating in any type of computer

i think i'll do a clean install of xp later on, if no fix, i'll reinstall vista and send it back ( liked that laptop )

All modern processors get very hot. Even the old 750Mhz CPU's suffered freezing due to heat
You're right though, do a clean install to make sure first if it's not going cause any harm.

Yeah, as Taz says M$ reckon that it's under development but they haven't set a release date yet. However, they did say that they don't want a repeat of the Vista delays fiasco and so going on their previous release schedules, it should be out in 2009 - 2010. Yeah, right...
@capt
The trouble with laptops, of course, is that you're very limited when it comes to upgrading. Since you've already upped the memory, I guess the only thing you could really do is stick a bigger hard drive in it. The data sheet suggests that the largest capacity drive is 160Gb SATA but it doesn't say whether larger drives are supported or not. I would guess that they are, so you could probably put a 200Gb or 250Gb drive in it.
Only problem is how easily accessible the drive is. In some laptops, it's under a little cover on the bottom (like the memory) whilst on others, it's buried inside requiring some very careful dismantling.
