I contacted Davinciteam today, asking if they would soon be able to unbrand/unlock the K750i, and got this reply:

"> Will you be getting a firmware to debrand K750i soon?

firmware we already have, logger not fully ready.
Communication interface completely different, but possible during
one week all problems must be solved"

Sounds promising. Also how do you find out the CDA number of your phone, and does anyone have a CDA for the Generic UK SE K750?

As you need to update this with your davinci flash, so in future you can use the good old SEUS which is of course free.

Thanks

Here's some questions!

I've got 2 lines set up on my orange contract. If you've flashed your phone to the unbranded firmware does it still recognise the 2 lines??

Also if its got unbranded firmware in, does that mean the phone is unlocked?

I was told by Orange no. They ask SE to slightly modify the phone to accept 2 lines on SE phones. This is why the K700i had no shortcuts. The 2 lines took this space on the phone in the firmware memory.

Also if you chaps updated the phone with SE update over the last few days and the icons went back to the norm generic icons. I am aware that the icons will revert back to the Orange ones on the next firmware update.

The update released wasnt Aproved by Orange and the Orange asked SE to block the update for a temp measure. Thanks

Will an unbranded phone continue to recognise the Orange voicemail alert system?

Also, the SE tech guy said that unbranding will invalidate any warranty I have. Is this likely to be a problem? The phone will still work with Orange, won't it?

Updating your phone with a different firmware will not invalidate your warranty if your phone is hard ware related.

No you will still received the normal Orange voice mail system. This is standard in all SE software

Orange are lying about the line 2 (ALS - alternate line service) information - ALS is included as part of something called CPHS which pretty much all phones support out of the box (although not necessarily switched on). So for Orange to tell you they modified the firmware for this purpose is rubbish - a vanilla K700i would happily support ALS.
They modified the phones firmware and removed features such as customisable shortcuts and the "more" menu because they wanted to replace it with their own rubbish like extra camera buttons or the obstructive Orange homescreen.

Not suprised one bit that the Orange icons will be back with their next firmware update - it unlike Orange these days to actually do something useful like removing their nasty icons. Always had a doubt that this firmware update had slipped through the net at Orange.

Yes i was most shocked wheni got the nice icons back. I wish they would just leave the phone alone. This would stop half of the bugs with them and let SE concentrate on fixing the faults more quickly and efficiently.

Let people choose what they want. People would spend more and use the phone more.

Thank you for using the Sony Ericsson Update Service!

Ive been looking into the way the update service works with a view to finding some way of fooling it into thinking you have a generic unbranded k750i.

I've written a program which intercepts the communication between the flasher program and the ericsson servers.

What I need now is a few users who would be willing to run this piece of software and send me the results. A few users from each network and a mixture of branded/unbranded phones.

With any luck it should be possible to identify enough about the protocol to fool it into updating our branded phones.

I am attaching images of the initial query and response packets sent from the flasher software when I attempt to flash my orange branded phone to demonstrate the sincerity of this post.

Send me a private message if you are interested in helping out, stating your network, branded/unbranded, the current version of your firmware and a contact email address.

thanks, ive had enough responses for now.

Didnt manage to learn a great deal from the data.
It seems to be the same no matter what firmware or network you are running.

Am going to wait till another firmware update is released and see how that affects the data.

I am also in the process of decompiling the flasher program

I've just used Davinci and updated my Orange K750i which now has the original SE icons. See other threads for details.
