Does anyone know what can be achieved by playing the little car game which comes on when Ridge Racers loads?

I remember old Ridge Racer games has similar old games to play & they unlocked new cars in the actual game.
I tried a few times & got nothing before losing so I've turned it off now so it just loads straight to RRs but there must be a purpose to it.

Also do u know how much of the mini game u need to complete to get any rewards etc?

Don't worry I've figured it out.

- Go to main menu
- then options
- then the fifth option down with a picture of the car
- then left or right to turn off
- then OK.

Cheers!

You got it

I believe there is the car from the mini game in RRs (you can see its shadow in the Special Car Class) so maybe it unlocks that? Or maybe one of the World Tours I've not done yet.

Come to think of it, if you go to a locked car it tells you across the bottom what you need to do to unlock it. It's mostly Japanese but you can see the tournament name for example. I just can't look cos it's at home & I'm not.

Oh and you can scroll the bottom text bat with the L and R buttons, thought I'd mention it even though it's all Japanese and we can't read it

Yep it unlocks that car you seen (4th one along in special catagory). I think you need to get about 50,000 or 80,000 in it.I think I done it after the 4th or 5th level.

That would be cool but i doubt sony will, more like a highly skilled programer but obviously sony would make it look like a bad thing to install tho it could be harmless

Why exactly would u need a language patch? The Jap one is a GENERIC console & u simply choose whatever language u want.
The first option when u turn it on for the first time is select language so the PSP is entirely in English now.

The manual is Japanese & parts of the games are but thats all. And it will play UK games anyway

Regarding the game loading up at startup. I never actually turn my PSP off & just leave it in standby it then boots up to the last view i.e. in the game or in the menu system.

I did a test & the battery hardly changes in standby mode even if left over days.

I've played RR & Lumines. Any other JAP games you can recommend which don't rely on you knowing Japanese.

I'm looking forward to the Baldur's Gate type game & especially Mercury.

PS If you didn't know you can download a English pdf manual now anyway.

I imported mine at silly price but got it on 20th December ready for Christmas

yeh but i read somewhere (either Games Master magazine or GAME) that it will be region free for games but developers will b able to add region coding to games if they feel they want to which would effectivly make it a non region free console.... i didnt know but the XBOX is in fact a region free console but the games makers place a region code on the games to stop games from one country working on a console from another country.... this could happen with the PSP guys...

but who cares its still fookin amazin an i will buy the UK model a few weeks after release wen its all calmed down a bit... [addsig]

Yes, but don't forget that Japan & UK are both region 2 so can't loose importing to UK (one of reasons I took the plunge). US is a different matter.

@ psikey

I'd thought about leavin it in stanby myself but I wasn't sure about the effect on the battery. You say it hardly drains any, hmm interesting

@ voda_jon
I don't see how that would work. If a console is region free that would suggest they are all the same & hence all games work.
For the game to be able to tell the console not to play it would suggest the console is programmed to know which region the game is from & only play it if it is from the same region as the console itself...........
Therefore they're not all the same & its NOT region free in the first place!

Surely its either region free or not, it can't be selectively both can it?
