T610 - R1L software is out |

I know there seems to be a big issue with Vodafone T610's but how about Orange? (UK)
I just phoned Orange to ask them about the firware upgrade and of course they knew nothing about it but suggested I go to Carphone Warehouse or The Link if there is an upgrade available.
Would these places charge me for a firmware upgrade and is there a similar issue with Orange as there is with Vodafone, in regards to whether or not I'm "allowed" to upgrade etc?

Don't think its possible here in Aust to get rid of vodafone live stuffs.........too bad ! Anyway, you should have bought the unbranded T610 in the first place.

You can of course get rid of the Vodafone customisations by flashing the phone yourself ... do a search on the forums, and there are plenty of companies offering this service. |

Told you Auntie Emma cannot distinguish between her twin granchildren!!!
Both my ex-branded and non-branded, bought-in-Greece units also have IMEIs starting with these digits.

so what's the best way to remove the vodafone logo on the front/back of the phone? i.e. make the service center believe it's non-branded, without damaging the phone |

Scrape it off with the edge of a slightly bent plastic card (credit-card, phone-card, prepay renewal card, etc). Scratch as hard as your heart and patience dictates! The front one in particular will dissapear within seconds. The rear takes a little longer because the surface is flat. No matter how hard you scrape, IT WILL NOT LEAVE ANY MARKS whatsoever. None...ziltch! I promise! As good as a new unbranded one! Solvents of all kinds (including 100 percent acetone) had not worked for me!
Good luck you sneaky ones!

As no one has replied to my question, I'll do it myself! Sheesh!
I upgraded my Orange (UK) T610 today to R1L firmware and it all went smoothly. The girl in the shop told me it's completely "Factory-Reset" everything in my phone, which I wasn't relishing but it actually didn't change or reset anything at all, which was a relief.
I checked the Firmware version of the phone afterwards to check it had been applied and it had!
Haven't noticed anything different really, in the new version, except that I don't like the screensaver clock anymore and the Java startup icon is different. Apart from that, identical!
PS: Here's a tip on how to check the software version of your T610. Apologies if it's been mentioned before:
From your main desktop screen, follow this sequence:
>*<<*<*
(where < is joystick-left, > is joystick-right, and * is the star key)
This brings you to a "Service" menu where if you select "Service Info" and then "SW Information", you should see that the Software (or Firmware) version is the first thing noted, beginning with 'R'.
This is quite a cool menu but it seems the only thing you can actually change in "Service" is the screen brightness, more than the usual control in "Settings".

Does anyone know if it's possible to delete all the pictures that came with the phone? I've deleted some of them but the rest say "Cannot delete predifined item".
They're using up memory! |

woohoo, scratched the back one too
thx haki for ur suggestion
one more question: since australian service centers all refuse to flash my phone to non-vodafone software, i probably have to use sonyericssonserver.com or something similar... now, if i flashed it myself with one of these online servers, will i be able to take my phone to a service center, pretend it's not vodafone, and get them to upgrade it if updated software becomes available? do they need to see the receipt? (it has vodafone printed on it... )

This is one of the many threads that discusses that you can't remove a couple of items but if you check them they are both 32 x 32 so take up very little memory that you need not worry (especially since there is nothing you can do about it!).

Frail, I promised you it would work! I'm glad you did it!
...without any remnants of its sinnery past of course!
Now, regarding upgrading; in Greece one is normally in service-period within 15 months after the manufacturing week stated on the back of one's phone. This is perfectly reasonable unless it is a stolen unit. But then again, it is not SE's duty to deal with thefts.
