All S20/S20+ phones are speced for 960fps@720p only which leads me to believe they don't have dram either and instead they are utilizing CPU for either native 960fps or software interpolation. Ultra on the other hand can only do 480fps@720p which is then interpolated to 960fps. Samsung's super slow motion has always been inferior to Sony's in picture quality especially in 1080p but they were the only two manufacturers to offer it, Huawei has really struggled to achieve it with as software solution as it's evidently a lot worse than Samsung and Sony altogether.
On subject of Ultra here is my opinion: it's a marketing move to make you buy S20/S20+ instead and Samsung is the king of Android marketing. They know S20 combo would not generate enough buzz so they came up with Ultra to get the talk rolling all over again. It's the sole reason why Ultra was available for review before regular S20s. Samsung knows very few will throw $1500 at Ultra but many will go for S20 based off Ultra brand. That's something Sony had missed out on since introduction of Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 was six months apart. From what I remember original plan for XZ2 family was to introduce Premium, Regular and Compact at the same time and then introduce XZ3 (XZ2 facelift) in the fall which was perfect scenario but it fell through because Premium had last minute changes or God knows what. Maybe Sony could have taken into consideration to release Xperia 1II and Xperia 5II (smaller screen, resolution and inferior camera stack) at the same time and then do the Xperia 3 which could be a combo of features between 1II and 5II in the fall, like best of both worlds or something. |

Does this mean deal with AT&T?
Are they using the new FPS or paying royalties to Apple?
I could not find if the Shutter is still up to 30s and iso values.

I agree to this.
The Ultra was just meant for marketing hype. Most people will be contented with less features than the ultra especially if it will be cheaper and less obtrusive.

i'm not sure about how they handle 108 mp data but sensor is really big, and without dram sensor heat can be a big problem.maybe this is why ultra can only do 480 fps.
i thik sony can put 720@480fps at least but they can say now that we choose resolution over fps (2k@120 fps) even though real reason is dramless sensor.

Curious to see if powerful people at Sony use Xperia or iphone.
Even Huawei owner and his family have tons of apple stuff.

Sales numbers will only translate if they have signed up with carriers and gave them a good chunk of profits to push the phone, we are talking about global level here not local. No unlocked phone sales will ever touch the numbers of carrier subsidized driven sales. But Sony is not stupid, they know they can't scratch Apple, Samsung and Huawei even if they offer their device in a carrier store and loose most of the profits because of it. OnePlus is the perfect example how throwing money on carrier push doesn't work, take a look at their sales numbers on Tmobile and compare it to the hype they had for 7 Pro, it was all over the web 24/7 yet in the end it got dropped by Tmobile cause sales were nothing. OnePlus has invested tens of millions of dollars in 7 Pro US launch and it backfired on them big time. |

So who plans on picking up the M II?
I'd but it in heartbeat if it was available here in Australia but sadly Sony pulled out after the XZ2.

You can vote for the Xperia 1 II over on GSM Arena as they're running a weekly poll right now.
Sony asks for a second chance with Xperia 1 II and Xperia 10 II

I'm hoping to get one but don't know what I'm gonna do yet. Especially since it won't be supporting American 5G. Not sure how they are gonna handle it and if they will be charging for something that won't be useful at all to me.
A really good European bundle would easily tempt me to import it. Why can't you also import?
