According to se-first the non-AF on X8 camera is causing problems when reading the barcodes:
"Not really surprising, we found that in first place we really miss the autofocus. This is not only a good feature for taking pictures, the lack of it makes it also nearly impossible to use a barcode scanner app for instance, since the barcode will not get the necessary sharpness that is needed to process it (unless it is a really big barcode of course)."
