I think it was a tweet from @Nanu that i saw earlier that said the 2G iPhone was £270 when it came out, 32GB 3GS is £270. How is that a subsidised price?! lol
@Mechanical_Mind
Wasn't me mate, but neither the 2G nor the upcoming iPhone 3Gs are subsidised O2 admitted, therefore owners of the 2G and future owners of the 3Gs should be provided with unlock codes from O2 upon request, but guess what!......

They've admitted that the 3G S is heavily subsidised though. I'm confused! lol
Yeah, I want my unlock code!
So if 3G 16GB when it came out was £150+ and the 16GB 3GS is £184, and the 3G was supposed to be subsidised?!!?

Not sure how much it says extra from what masseur saw earlier. I don't think I will get mine right away now as I have to pay for a holiday to Marbella first. Maybe later in the year.
Thanks but they say the pricing hasn't been published yet. |

The iPhone 3G S 32GB works out @ around £538.30 whether on contract or PAYG so it doesn't look very subsidised!

on payg its £538.30
cheapest 18 month contract is 18*£29.38 + £274.23 handset price = £803.07
on payg you get 1 year included unlimited 3g data and wifi and you need to pay a monthly min of £10 for 500 minutes
on that cheapest contract you get 75 minutes and 125 texts
so to use the payg with the supplied payg sim will cost a minimum of £538.3 + 12 * 10 = £658.30 whereas its still £803.07 on contract and you still have to pay for texts on payg
looking at 18 months on payg it gets worse as, after 12 months you also have to pay for data
payg looks good for now though as I'll continue to use my current contract sim in the 3G S with the mobile number I've had for more than 10 years, sell the iphone 3G to recoup some of the payg price and I'll have no payout as I'll still continue to use that current sim. I'll probably just ditch the payg sim or ditch my tmob web'n'walk and use the payg sim in my 5800.
btw, don't forget that contract £29.38/month at cheapest rate will revert to £30/month after December when VAT returns to 17.5%

I worked it out as PAYG £538.30
Then 18 month @ £34.26 + handset @ £274.23 = £890 less actual cost of tariff based on simplicity equivalent so cost of handset = £530
My preferred method would be PAYG @ £538.30 my simplicity sim @ £20/month 600mins 1200 texts UL data, (free WiFi as I only use WiFi at home I have 3G for when I am out of the house) so total cost for 12 months, £778.30 then I can sell and get the new iPhone and start again
So really O2 could offer a 12 month contract @ £65/month with a free 32GB 3GS 600mins 500texts UL data & WiFi and still make the same money! and TBH I'd probably go for it!

And don't forget the optional £120 Insurance on top if your buying it on PAYG? but i suspect many people will be taking out 02's insurance since they will be forking out £538.30 for the phone itself.

So if you buy the 3G S on PAYG you can stick a non-iphone-contract O2 sim in it and all will be well?

To those people wondering about getting an unlock code from O2 for the Iphone. That won't happen, as the phone is locked by Apple not by O2. So I don't know why people get on the case for O2 to unlock it, when its done by the manufacture. Any unlock code's for O2 mobiles that may be locked is always requested from the manufacture direct. |

... and wouldn't you HAVE to pay a further/compulsory £10 per month to O2 for 12 months?
Or, once you've paid the price of the PAYG phone can you then just stick your middle finger up at O2 and not bother with the minimum payments p/m? |

You can buy the phone on pay and go and just use your o2 pay monthly sim in it. I am planning on buying it on prepay not yet though, once I have saved up for it (which will take a while lol, cuz am in no rush) and then I will be putting my pay monthly sim in it.
