ah didn't think of that... the HMRC are on the ball ain't they, or it is time for me to register as a biz and claim the VAT back? hmmmmmm
anyway back on topic...
I've not been tempted by a nokia in a while...
Your biz would have to be turning over £62k ish to register for VAT and even then it is a complicated affair which Mr Nanu keeps well away from hence the fact my accountant makes sure I keep under the absolute figure!
So the Phoenix neither charges or claims back VAT, they can keep it!

You can voluntarily register a business for VAT if you are below the compulsory registration threshold. However HMRC, may call upon proof of trading, and proof that any goods on which you reclaim VAT are used for business purposes, at any time. Voluntary registration is particularly useful for small businesses that deal primarily with other businesses, but generally fatal for small companies that deal with the public.
Furthermore if you factor in the cost of paying a good accountant to file your returns each year, the hassle is probably not worth it anyway.
Back to the N82, when do you think it may be available in the UK with a contract on a major network? Is before Christmas a little optimistic? |

@PTM
carphonewarehouse & o2.co.uk has N82 available as Dec 2007, whether that will be before christmas we'll have to wait and see!

Interesting,
o2.co.uk now has the N82 down as '2008' where carphonewarehouse still says 'expected Dec 2007'

just been reading the review of N82 on GSMarena
http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n82-review-195.php
and finishes off with:
"As for the cameraphone lovers, the decision is as simple as that - if you want the best camera on a phone and you're willing to pay for it, Nokia N82 is the way to go."

Well to be perfectly honest due to so few positive reviews in comparison to the number of reviews extolling disappointment and the K850's failings it's pretty hard and totally illogical to try and claim the K850 is either brilliant or a success. Even hardened SE fans are disappionted and angry and stuck yet once more in the infinite loop of the next Firmware will fix it scenario.
Just how long does it take to get a stable firmware out? people bought this for a reason and missing Christmas and New Year photo ops to wait for a January Firmware is very unlikely to please them is it?
This phone was realeased about 2 months ago now it has a very minor upgrade that doesn't really seem to of made much difference for many, what ever you may think about Nokia at least they get new firmware out quickly that fix the issues. Sorry but SE customer support and service is just abysmal they really need to do something about it just knowing about all the bugs does nothing to satisfy their users disappointment and frustrations. 3 months to wait for the first real Firmware upgrade to fix things is way to long and if it doesn't do enough what another 3 month wait for the next one 6 months to wait for a Flagship device to deliver what it promised is just far to long. Just look at how many SE users have already given up and now gone elsewhere.
What in my opinion makes things even worse is this is probably one of the most decisive selling periods of the Year, i await with great interest SE's Q4 Sales and profit report and somehow doubt it will of bucked the last Q trend .

Got mine this morning..paid €489 here in Italy (but the price was discounted since the shop owner is a student of mine)
So far it's a bloody brilliant phone (mind you I am going from a N93 to the N82) The GPS works a treat..picked me up in no time and gave me great directions in the city centre. It shipped with a 2gb memory card and the maps of Italy already loaded on the phone.
The appearance of the phone is also rather nice but I think I too would prefer it black like the N81.
I managed to take a ew pictures with the phone this afternoon in the city but photobucket reduces the size of the pics.

Picked up my Nokia N82 UK, sim free today, pics below, Quality is very good.
The front of the phone is nicely made, but the rear is a touch plastic, but seems well put together, and works well so far.

Awesome pics despisedangel. especially that church pic.
Went around the mall today to look for the N82 and sadly, only got dummy fones on display.
Feels well enough though. The keypad was not so bad tho might need some getting used to. They're Too small and too close together. I've big callused thumbs from typing and playing console games.
Want that phone asap. sure hope its not too pricey here in the Philippines.
Hope I'll have one by the time of our vacation to Cebu City for the Sinulog festival this January. That would be one fine time to be testing the camera. |
