I'm not sure about the pissed up opperation of this either.... think I'd struggle to text a dirty message to some bird in my phone in the hope of a shag using the touch screen after 8 pints |

Other than that one thing bothers me. Why Apple is alergic to FM-tuner. I really want to know.

Haha. Good point. However, their accessories dont suffer from the same problem. Theres a FM radio headset and this phone has a ipod port.

that´s not quite the same of actually having a radio...such and high tech product, and yet they left some thing most smartphones have... |

@ares
Whats different? The radio tuner is displayed on the screen and in phones we have to connect the headset for the radio to work. Most importantly, you can listen to FM radio, RDS as well.
Edit
You get a remote as well.

What get's me is this claim of it being 5 years ahead of anything else?? I give it 6 months to a year after it's released before SE and Nokia totally ruin Apple's thunder, not to mention LG and Samsung etc. The mobile market is totally crowded and one Apple will never dominate as their far too late to the party for that.
I just can't see the other manufacturers sitting their and doing nothing, they'll release killer phones no doubt.
At least WE are the winners in all this as WE get all the fantastic gadgets. |

agreed. I often think manufacturers only make available in new phones what they feel they need to, to stay slightly ahead of the rest so they can keep more for later
perhaps a company like apple can make them take larger steps into the future

Apple have been working on this phone for so long, I don't think the competitors can come up with an UI that quick that can compete with this. It's freaking amazing!! Spec-wise it ain't futuristic, but the functionality is just all that! Try to imagine that you play with the iPhone for 5 minutes or so.... and then go back to your pretty static phone OS (especially within Nokia). Only SE comes close with it's animations, but the others.... 5 years behind. |

Where do you guys live that "FM radio" is so wonderful?
I NEVER listen to the radio! Not in my home, not in my car, not on my phone! It's nothing but advertising and the incoherent ramblings of idiot shock-jocks. When they do play music it always the same 3 freaking songs. I swear, listen to the radio some day and you will hear the same shit over and over again. I would rather decide what music I listen to and not have to suffer through the senseless tripe that network radio offers.
I've used the radio in my w810i once, to see if it worked.
p.s. I do occasionally listen to NPR when I can (when I am in an area that offers an NPR station, where I live doesn't) otherwise I download the Podcast versions of the shows. |

I can't really say that we are all Winners ... especially after paying so much for the P990i and found that it is really not as good as it claims. Now, with iPhone out, my P990i smartphone doesn't look so smart after all.
And do I think that SE will continue to develop P990i to settle all the bugs and usability problems? I don't think so. They might simply abandon the P990i and focus their resources on developing their "P1000" to compete with the iPhone. |

But what new functionality would you be enjoying on the iphone that your p990 cant do right now? |

Very impressive i must say. Actually the only new tech i could see here is the multi-tap.
Now put a multi-tap plus 3.2mp camera or higher, 30fps video playback etc. in a SE slim device. You'll get the iphone killer! I really don't think SE, Nokia or Samsung are that far in producing their own version of multi-tap phones.
Also, the user operations may look easier for us teach-geeks but it could be a bit uncomfortable for others especially elderly folks.
The pricing should also be taken into consideration. Not everyone has or would be willing to spend that amount on phone. I'm waiting for SE's killer iPhone! I know they can do it. |

I believe that the iphone´s main assets are its software and multi-touch tech. Those are apple´s strenghs and its no wonder their phone have the best of it in the world right now. Nokia and may come up with similar products but the multi-touch tech was patented by apple last year and i doubt they´ll sell it to nokia or . Not to mention the software. Apple´s software is unique. Nokia, and other companies may have been on the mobile market for longer but remeber that this is not just a phone, its a small computer. Apple ´s been a OS powerhouse for over 30 years. They know how to make it impressive, they know how to make better, more intuitive and more attractive. Its not a surprise the iphone´s ui looks and works the way it does. No mobile company has apple´s software quality and expertise. Microsoft may have developed windows mobile but it doesnt support multi-tap and i dont think it will in years because of the patent, not to mention the fact that microsoft itself copies apple all the time when it comes to software just like the mobile companies will do now. Similiar products may appear in the q4 of this year or next year but who knows what apple may be developing now or then?
