Sorry to digress, but it was evident from very early on that the K-Jam was under powered. I would assume that this upgrade is sufficiently powerful to not be affected by the same flaws. Anyone out there placed to give a comparison? Does the TyTn hang? Need for Soft Reset or Hard Reset? Anyone tried TomTom? Anyone tried doing 3 things at once with it? Please make any other points you feel relevant.

Many thanks

Probably the Trinity which has everything the TyTN has but without the keyboard and including GPS.

WIFI G supports WIFI B. The difference is the speed. Limit for WIFI B is 11Mb/s

Yer wifi G is backward compatible....some access points (mine does) allow you to choose between, purely G, purely b, or g and b. aslong as yours is using g and b both then either device will work fine.

Very true, and of course there is also the issue with some access points where all "g" devices are slowed as soon as a "b" device connects, although I think more recent kit handles "b" and "g" devices together much better these days.

My girlfriend has just got that phone today and i must say i am very impressed with it. I had a K-Jam (as did she) and i must admit i was a very big fan of it. I have only been playing with the phone this evening but i have already seen some improvements over the K-Jam...firstly the jog dial, is brillant, so much better then the tiny M600i one, i also love the fact that this is the first WM5 phone that i have used that i can fully operate one handed, this is mainly to do with the jog dial. The keyboard is improved as well, although some of the keys feel a tiny bit squshed...also another thing that i noticed is there is no lag when opening up the keyboard and the screen turns to landscape (there was a bit of a lag with the K-Jam)....also when comparing the looks of the K-Jam to the Tytn, the K-Jam does look like a bit of a toy next to it....

P.S. I also like the fact that they have included a symbol to show you when you have selected CAPS lock and also numberic lock....

that was also there on the k-jam but you had to apply a registry setting to activate it as there was no user interface way of setting it on.

I have found a tiny problem with mine. The return key (the one just under the jog dial) sticks a bit sometimes but a small press of the housing just below it pops it out again. I'll see if this persists or wears away before deciding to talk to HTC about it.

I wonder how many people here have switched to the TyTN in preference to the P990 as the comparison of the two was the original purpose of this thread?

I also wonder how many are gettnig both because they cannot make their mind up!

I'm at the point where I feel I am just going through the motions with the P990 but I really want to give it a fair chance. I guess it doesn't hurt to already have an opinion and try my hardest to make the P990 equal that opinon...

@masseur

I agree with you, i am almost getting the p990 because i have been waiting so long to use it! Have you completely fallen out of love with the M600i, i remember a few weeks ago you were enjoying it, or like me were you enjoying the form factor?

no, I love the M600! I won't be getting rid of that, but the TyTN or the P990 will have to go once the decision is made

The M600 is great and will be the device I use when I need PDA/good internet capabilities in a small inconspicuous device and the TyTN/P990 for general every day use

I was thinking about getting both the P990 and TyTN but after my experience with WM5 on the XDA Exec I feel the things I need are not well catered for in WM5:

- I make a lot of calls and I need good comms hardware and excellent BT signal quality, these were real problems with the JJ/Exec. The delayed wake-up issue may not be a problem with the TyTN but the WM5 solution includes two OSs (yes!) the comms part uses a real-time Linux kernel

- I love listening to good quality music reproduction and so far SE and Sony devices have been the best for me. The M600 with the HBH-DS970 is superb, the bass control and general stereo 'sound stage' reproduction is much better than on the JJ/Exec (again the TyTN DSP hardware may be different in this respect)

- I don't want to reset every two days because RAM is running low. Okay the M600 is better after a reflash/Masetr Reset after 2/3 weeks, but I see this problem being solved in upgrades. Never needed to reset any of my mature Symbian devices like the P910, Nokia 9500 & 7710

EDIT: web browsing on the JJ/Exec with Opera is fantastic and I suspect it will be very good on the TyTN. But I decided a while ago that I would use my Ultra Portable Vaio with a 3G/HSDPA card for web browsing. So web browsing is not a killer issue for me
