@peeta, i dont think it's fair to ignore him.

When I see his arguments, I see the same logic that you all use to validate the reasoning for not killing an animal.

Trust me, if I was in a comma and there was no chance of me getting up.
I'd want to be 'put down'

@amnesia, even i support that. But we're not talking about "terminally ill" animals here!

So did those pics of the dogs put you of meat?

The chinese are a funny nation, I found an old email of a chinese company that bottles and sells dead human fetuses!!! Yes bottled and on sale in stores, theres even a pic of a guy eating one!
That can put you of meat and I will understand.

@Whizzkid.

I completely get where you stand on the Vegetarian thing but do you not think that you views are a little bit simplistic?

I mean, first of all it is possible to kill an animal humanely. How do I know this?

Because I had to go to the dentist to have a tooth removed and there was no way I could get it torn out while 'conscious' so I asked to be knocked out, which I was done, by injection.

Now I know for a fact that my tooth was ripped out of my jaw and I didn't feel a thing and while I was 'out for the count' they could have done anything else to me. (They could have even put a flower hat and big glasses on me for a laugh!).

So lethal injection is a humane way of killing, more humane than slitting an animals throat or clubbing it over the head.

Also, your argument regarding animals that are killed are being torn away from their families doesn't wash exactly because not all animals are social animals - sharks are a good example. They don't swim around in packs or families. Spiders are another example.

Also, what would you do if your land or home was overrun with rats - creeping around your baby in the crib?

What if your farm was overrun with rabbits - ruining your crops and livelihood? Would it not be okay to exterminate them so they wouldn't return and make them into a nice big rabbit pie?

We have a farmer's market that visits occassionally that sells, Kangaroo sausages, Springbok burgers, Wild Boar sausages and Crocodile burgers

(These are just questions in the name of discussion, btw. I have never tasted Springbok Burgers, although I have tasted Rabbit pie! )

@goldenface, look back at my posts and find one where i mentioned that animals are social beings? I never said that. What i oppose is killing them for food or our needs while we can do without them. I am sure people can survive without eating animals. For us, its a matter of choice.....for them its a matter of life and death.

When did i say a goat is inferior to me??

I said, a goat is different from me!

For you the words "different" and "inferior" have the same meaning i guess!

Different as in inferior!! Coz it wont love you back, coz it wont cook for you, coz it wont wash your clothes, coz it wont surprise with romantic dinners (and all the 'pleasuring' stuff I dont want to get into! )
see we are superior!

What can it do for you besides be your dinner??
In the land of OZ they find other uses!!!

who says the animal has to do anything for us?

i have a challenge for you, find out how many cows it takes to provide nfl footballs for a year (789KBR and k4m!k4z! will be good at googling this ) its alot, would you stop watching nfl? (im not american btw) we couldnt have medicines or cleaning appliances without animal testing, its against the law not to test on animals i think, people are surviving illness because of an animal 'sacrifice' to discover the cure.

I know this was a few pages back, but if i was in pain, i wouldnt like to die, i would put up with it, theres too much to live for then to escape the pain

"I am sure people can survive without eating animals. For us, its a matter of choice.....for them its a matter of life and death."

Well the chimpanzees can live without meat in its diet yet every now and then decides to have a little meat by killing a monkey (and kills in a much more painful way than we humans do buy ripping in apart while still alive).

What exactly are we looking at in the first post? That way the animals are treated (caged) or the fact that people eat them?

The cruelty imo is the way in which they are kept before there killed, whilst the dogs are being eating they feel no pain as there dead.
People eat rabbits which many people in Europe keep and love as pets the same with horses and in some cases goats, pigs, and sheep. So the species is not relevant as we are one of the top of the food chain.
And should have to right to eat what we want

Animals are there to be killed. We just need to kill in moderation.

Its just part of life. No one bats an eye lid if you kill a insect.
