I got to have some hands on time with a ZL and Z today. The ZL had a noticeably brighter screen. ZL felt so nice in ny hand. I am really torn between the two devices. They both are amazing.

Also saw that the IR remote is just below the power button so you have to hold the phone in landscape when using the IR remote.

The ZL was just about the same size as my TL.

About the ZL having the brighter screen, I don't think it was really that noticeable. I tried both of them at CES and also compared my Xperia T with it, he's right about the ZL being about the same size as the T which is why I'm planning on getting the ZL, 5" over the 4.5" and same size body, why not right?

Sony Xperia Z review

We were pleased to find the Xperia Z not only lasted a day but went a good way through a second. As you can see from the screenshot we went 31 hours and still had 20 percent of the battery remaining.

They praised abt the screen
"viewing angle is incredibly large . At trial, he easily touches 170 °. One of the best displays that I have ever seen is. And one of the finest. The new Mobile Bravia Engine 2 is not there to decorate and FULL HD either."..

Verge always gives 9+ for iPhones... I guess Z's score will be between 7 to 8... Going by GSM's take on Z's cam, Verge might end up giving 6 or 7 for Z's cam... I'm not being pessimistic or something... But some major sites are against Z's cam, even though it's the BEST out there...!!!

P.S.: Nevertheless, verge gives 9+ for great cameras from Sony... Still I'm not optimistic abt verge's take on Z...!!!

I've been this morning in the new exposition for the MWC in Barcelona. They have exposed four Xperia Z.

The phone is absolutely beautiful, it has the best design that I've never seen on a smartphone or anything else. It's the lightest phone I've ever got in my hands too. An outstanding piece of design.

Display is fine, but it's virtually the same screen as the Xperia T. Gsmarena is right, colours are a bit washed out and viewing angles are a step forward from Xperia T but nothing spectacular. Even my Xperia TX has more vibrant colours!

Sound is good too, louder than Xperia T or S, and surprinsingly ClearAudio sounds better than Xperia V.

A few pictures:

From XDA

"I just spoke to xiFIL, and worst fears have come true, his Vodafone store received batches of the Z today, they took out a few devices where the boxes got damaged in transit and tested them to make sure they work,

The screens on the final unit look washed out like the demo units, to top this off he tried several devices, all of them looked like the demo units with washed out colours, there is no production unit and demo unit, this is what you will get nothing else, all hope was lost today
"

Why can't Sony get phone displays right Xperia Tablets have perfect viewing angles and great colors/contrast. Why not Xperia smartphones.

P.S. I hope this is a problem with the first batch only, and later batches won't have this issue.

Let hope so, RamU. Now it feels like pre-ordering is not a good idea. I am thinking of waiting for a few weeks before getting the phone. One more doubt on the XDA quote, have they played with the brightness setting to check the display quality? We have seen the videos where the phone's display appears washed out with the brightness set to maximum.
