just thought id make an appearence.
2 points to make. if you want a quick analysis of your hijack this logs then post them on http://www.hijackthis.de it will tell you whats good/bad and works well enough for the minor problem.
as for the deamon tools thing, i dont use it. i use isobuster to open my isos, extract them, and then i run the setup off my pc, and usually keep the files for later use

Sorted it now!
I went into Device Manager> CD/DVD Rom Drives> and removed the offending drive!
Thanks All!

I recently attempted to remove some spyware from the registry, yes dangerous I know and deleted something important.
Will it be in the Recycle bin and able to be 'restored'?
If not, can I enter the Registry and simply add the missing string?
Or am I going to need to reinstall Windows?
BTW I'm posting this from another computer...
TIA

You can, providing you know what and where the string was and it'll boot into safe mode at least. You can't edit the registry from the repair console as far as I know.
I think you'd be best trying a repair reinstall which basically replaces all of your system files and critical registry keys but does not delete any of your personal data. If you're not sure how to so this, give us a shout
Is this XP or Vista, by the way?

I've finally gotten my new laptop booted up! However, as is usually the case when I try to do something with a PC which works fine for everyone else, it doesn't work for me!
I can't install my Netgear wireless adapter on the damn thing! It goes through the installation, asks me to reboot the machine, which I do. What should happen then is that the Negear WG111T smart wizard programme should run, and it doesn't. It starts up briefly then disappears. No matter what I try it won't run, and therefore I can't seem to be able to complete the setup. However I've noticed that wizard doesn't run on this PC either. I've tried running the Windows hardware setup wizard, and despite pointing it at where the drivers are on the hard disk or the CD it just won't find them, keeps saying that the file doesn't have information on my hardware, it's very frustrating!
I've tried restarts, reinstalling the drivers and downloading drivers off Netgear's website with no joy.
Help!

I actually have one of these adapters and to be honest, they're not brilliant so if there's any chance you can send it back and get a different one, that would be a good idea
Anyway, I'll have to look into it for you because they usually get past the installation stage ok, the problems start after that

I suspect it's a problem with that actual adapter now, as I've gotten the seemingly identical adapter off my desktop PC and that's installed fine, though I had to copy the drivers onto my pen drive and point the Windows installer to it! I also tried the other adapter on my PC and it wouldn't install - strange as it was working fine on my wife's laptop! But for the time being the problem's solved, I'm on the laptop now using my wife's 19v 6.3w adapter until mine arrives!
Next problem... the external DVD-RW drive that came with the laptop doesn't seem to be working it seemed to auto-install OK, then when I put a disc in the drive appears to spin up, stop, start spinning again... and so on! Any ideas there?

Hardware... Something like a dirty lens or worse...
That spin up, spin down, etc... is the drive trying to locate the "boot" sector. |

^^^
Yup, if it does it with all disks and a cleaning disk doesn't work, then the drives had it.
Those wireless adapters really are shite. The only reason I didn't send mine back was because I lost the cap off it and the website I bought it from refused to refund me because the item "wasn't complete"
Got it working in the end but it was one hell of a struggle and even now, it freezes every now and then for no apparent reason...
